Thejob you quoted and the fact that you have a 335 amp service is ridiculous. Well you just stated had to have cost at least 10 to $20,000 you understand the typical person does not have close that amount of money to waste on upgrading a power supply. I mean you kind of backed up my theory of older houses and or newer houses that's crazy the amount of money and power you consume it your houses. Do you Butt coin mine?
I would say the *main* thing that made the cost high ... was a detached garage with no easy way to route upgraded power to it. There was no path from the house to the garage that wouldn't require cutting through a patio or driveway. We chose to cut through the driveway since the driveway had a lot of un-level sections that were up-heaved by tree roots. It needed to be repaired anyway.

It certainly wasn't $10k+. But I could imagine that it could have been $10k plus if we hadn't done a lot of the work ourselves. We did most of the work that doesn't require a licensed electrician.

I got my Charge Point delivered a couple days ago. My electrician could not make it this week to do the electrical work in the garage. Only about a 20ft run, conduit mounted on the inside to a solid filled block wall. I am Doing the Nema outlet. Not hardwiring. 50 amp breaker in the panel. Cant wait. No car, but the electric will be done. Lol

You should do a 60A breaker with the matching wire size, so you can charge at the full 48A the MME can accept.

What size wire for the 60 amp breaker. #6 ? I will check the threads or talk to my electrician. Thanks for that tip.

#6 THHN/THWN-2 stranded copper wire. You'll have a separate insulated conductor for your hots, neutral and ground. This provides higher amperage allowance than your traditional romex bundled wire.

Mine has been hardwired for 48 amps on a 60 amp circuit for months. My MME? Still in transit! :)

That would require hardwiring it.
Good catch. Yes, @Glen bumping up to a 48A service for the CPHF, you'd need to hardware - which is truly no big issue at all. It's easy to disconnect the leads should you ever have a warranty repair/replacement requirement.

I installed mine with an extra wire (white) in case I ever move and want to convert it to a 14-50 outlet.

I did the same, except I'm using the larger #6 wire as my ground load. Its tagged on both ends. So right now my #8 Green is capped at both ends.

I have #6 Black, Red, White and a #8 Green.

I included 3 6AWG wires (red, black, white), along with a 8AWG ground inside the conduit. I’ve no plans to move, but you never know…

FWIW, if the conduit is metallic, it can serve as the ground, the green wire is not necessary. Nothing wrong with having a green, but not required.

I used Liquid Tight, as I had to run about 60-70ft including verticals, bends, and through Webb trusses.

True, but since I used smurf conduit, I needed it :)
