I just wanted to take a moment to share some news of a new ABRP feature that is being launched right now. ABRP now has the ability to use a Bluetooth Low Energy OBD2 dongle to read live data from your car directly to improve route planning. I have been working with the team to get this working with the Mach E on launch and they have pushed the production apps today!

The app will collect the following data from the Mach E:

  • State Of Charge (Matching the displayed SoC)
  • Current
  • Voltage
  • External Temperature
  • Battery Pack Temperature
  • If the car is charging or not charging
  • State of Health of the HVB

The ABRP app can – for supported vehicle models – connect via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to a user-installed OBD BLE adapter in the car. This allows the ABRP app to communicate instantly with your car to read out SoC (battery %), and many other parameters which keeps the ABRP app up to date with your car as you drive. This works for both iOS and Android devices and is available for all ABRP users, not only Premium members.

I personally have tried two different OBD Dongles and they work.

VGate iCar Pro: (May require firmware update if connection fails)

VeePeak OBDCheck BLE:

Recommended OBD adapter is the OBDLink CX. It does have some actual security to keep others from pairing to it when idle. However, This has been sold out everywhere for weeks with no sign of coming back in stock soon.

**Known Mach E Issues**

- I have had some connectivity issues when using PAAK. If you experience connection issues, force stop the fordpass app, and disable and re-enable bluetooth and try again.

This is awesome. If nothing else, it's a great convenient window into quick battery stats for the car. Thanks for helping out with this! I'll give it a try.

Also of note, if you have ABRP premium, you can save all of the data to your account and view it later.

this is SUPER COOL as it shows some data that I wish was on the MME instrument dashboard. I'll definitely give it a whirl! I have the Viecar BT and have played around with the CarScanner app to display, but have not created a 'dashboard' to display the kW power in/out in specific which was something I really want to see interactively.

I have not tried AndroidAuto yet... I am presuming this is optional, and only needed if I want to 'cast' the data dashboard from phone to center console, correct?

I have a question for the Android specialists in the group before I give this a try though.... I am concerned about available storage space on my phone. I am currently using 14.8/16 GB available for system/user data.... and I cannot figure out what the heck is using up all my data space or how to clean it out. Does anyone have a good tutorial on how to figure out what user data is eating space, and how to best clean house?

You just need to make sure that the OBD adapter you have is a Bluetooth Low Energy model. Those are the only supported types at this time.

Android Auto is a premium only feature at this time. But yes, it just displays the map on the screen and directions in the instrument cluster when its active.

the ABRP post doesn't really say (that I saw) so I'll ask - why do they care if it's LE or not? as long as it's sending the data to the phone, shouldn't that be enough? is the concern around draining the car battery or something? shouldn't that be our concern and not theirs in any event? ?

I have the
Viecar Bluetooth 4.0 OBD2 Diagnostic Scanner for Android/iOS,BLE OBDII Code
Reader,Car Scan Tool

...and will be happy just to display on my phone at first. I'll experiment w AndroidAuto later.

They wanted to get the most compatibility in the initial launch. ALL BLE adapters work on Android and iOS. Regular bluetooth works on android fine, but very few are supported witn iOS.

They may add in regular bluetooth support later, but for now focused on the best compatibility.
