I am curious your experiences using the 1 pedal driving (1PD) on the highway or during long road trips.

Should you turn off 1PD if you are going on the highway for a long time? Will you gain any regen if you are going a long distance without braking?

Planning a trip from Toronto to Chicago and since I have a 2023 Premium AWD without the extended range (d’oh) trying to stop as infrequently as possible.

Thanks!

I use 1PD on the highway all the time.

Here's the real question: do you plan to use the cruise control or BlueCruise? If so, you'll use it for most of your driving and BlueCruise doesn't. change depending on if your car is in 1PD or 2PD.

If you are really good at high efficiency driving and plan to focus on that during your entire time driving you might find a difference in efficiency. If you have better things to do with your life, you won't notice.

1 pedal, 2 pedal, or cruise control, doesn't matter. The car will use regenerative braking in all scenarios unless it needs more braking force in the form of friction braking. The only difference is how you drive the car.

My only issue using 1 pedal is when I drive something else. I have a Sprinter van and if I go a couple of weeks just driving the Mach E I expect the van to slow when I lift. It only takes to the bottom of the driveway to get my brain back on the proper page. But I actually wish the van had the same drivetrain as the car.

Replace the Sprinter with an eTransit? If you're seeded to Sprinters the eSprinter will have some similar characteristics. https://www.mbvans.com

I keep my junk until it is pretty well used up. The Mach E replaced a 12 year old Outback with 287k on it. The Sprinter will likely outlast me.

The key to better regen is to slow the car gently from higher speeds. It is pretty easy above 70 to slow beyond the capability to the car to regen.

If u turn on the power meter with forescan you can see when it happens. Brake coach does this but in a crude way. There are threads.

I can certainly drive 1pd, and 2pd, without actuating the brakes and always be in regen. It's just a matter of being smooth, especially when slowing down for off ramps. 1pd vs 2pd is only a matter of taste.

You will save FAR MORE RANGE by slowing down, and turning off (or down) climate control, than you ever will buy trying to optimize for regen.

I do it in all traffic. From highway to Seattle bumper to bumper.
Try it a few days to get the feel of it.
I love it

I use one pedal for all local driving, but turn it off on the highway because the brake lights come on whenever you ease off the throttle, and I don’t want to make the other drivers on the highway crazy. For local driving the brake lights are not a big deal.

Not true. Easing off on the power won’t turn on the brake lights unless you’re really powering back. Modest adjustments don’t trigger the brake lights.
