Optimal Battery Charge Level?

I've heard you're not supposed to charge EVs to 100% for your daily driving. Is that true? What should my charge level be?

Yes, it's a feature in the car menu and phone menu. You can set what time it will start charging and what percentage you want it to end at so you don't have to go physically plug or unplug.

I charge to 80% because that leaves me with more range than I use. The manual says 90%. Avoid charging to 100% when you don't actually need 100% range. If storing the car without using it for extended periods (e.g. not planning to drive it for a month or more) then 50% is ideal.

The middle range (not fully charging nor fully draining) is ideal.

There have been so many discussions on this already. This is pretty much a dead topic. The manual states daily charge to 90% for optimal battery longevity.

I'm still not convinced... I don't think we should worry about the SOC and we should feel comfortable allowing it to go to 100% of the DASH/APP reported SOC. Am I wrong?

So, the State of Charge:
Since Ford does NOT allow you to fill 100% of the Battery ...
Why is everyone only charging to 80-90% SOC based on the DASH/APP report? Isn't that really 70-75% of the Battery?

Battery Config: 98.8 kWh
Usable Battery Config: 88 kWh (~90% of actual Battery)
User Charged to 80%: 70.4 kWh (~70.4% of Battery)

Manual recommends ~90% SOC:
Is that 100% of the Usable 88 kWh (~90% of actual Battery)?
or
Is that 90% of the Usable 88 kWh (~80% of actual Battery)?

Lithium cells want to be around 3.8volts a cell for longevity. Ford is probably taking .1v off the top and .5v off the bottom. So 100% charged will be 4.1v a cell full. and dead will be around 3.2v(lithium actual 0-100% is 2.7v to 4.2v) so 80% is still recommended.. all lithium cells suffer degradation 4.0v and above, specially at higher temperatures. Also for long term storage its recommended to be stored at 50%

While it may be considered a dead topic by people that have already looked into it, for someone that is new to the world of EV’s, it is not a dead topic. If you have that much sand in your underwear when someone posts a thread about battery charging, might I kindly suggest that you simply scroll past if you don’t want to participate in a constructive manner?
