Two things:
1) I TOTALLY classify Ford as a software company (I understand that may be a controversial claim, but they write as much code as many software houses)
2) unfortunately, this seems to be an industry-wide thing. Facebook updates its app, and the release notes say "bug fixes and refinements." Same with most video games. Laziness? They pay by the character? Dunno.
The issue I take with “Ford is a software company” is simple… does Ford write a lot of software? Sure. BUT, they don’t write software as an end product, they write software because they need to in order to make their primary products work.

And its more like firmware.
Although it feels like they are a debugger - getting the bugs out of my car for me.

1. is very debatable lol

2. I would class it as very lazy I don't expect a giant encyclopedia but a simple description of the issues fixed is far better than using a generic bug fixes term.

For people that have no interest it is not a problem as reading what was changed is optional but having a general idea of what was fixed goes a long wat to help highlight problems that can arise from updates as it is unfortunately all to common in software for one bug fix to cause a new bug.

With OTA everyone has essentially become a beta tester, so the more info on changes the quicker they can help isolate any problems introduced so they can be fixed in the next update.

Received update (OTA) last night because update symbol is on the "board" and on my Ford Pass. Same complaint as others; doesn't't specifically say what issues they addressed or software they changed. Squishing bugs is not very specific. Nice to know that the update mechanism works though.

Believe it or not, they’re watching these forums and others.
I’m not sure they are. Or at least, anybody who can actually make a difference, or cares to. We’ve been reporting bugs that are relatively simple to fix for months now. And nothing. Two OTA updates. Nothing. Numerous FordPass versions. Next to nothing. A few service bulletins have trickled out, some of which blame the issues on user training. Ford did fix my problem with some of the doors not unlocking properly on approach - they issued a fix to the dealers for that. So that’s something. But damn Ford is slow. They suck at software.

Want to talk to someone at Ford who knows anything? Not gonna happen. Want acknowledgment of that the problem is being investigated? Not gonna happen.

The largest software product I've worked on over a 35 year career had about 1.5 million lines of code. The Mach-E alone purportedly has 90 million.

Yeah, they've got software engineers and they're a software and hardware company

Which doesn’t change the fact that the Mach-E is what they are selling, not the software that runs the Mach-E…

Yes it is.
I got this message. When are updates regularly scheduled?

Hi there,
We just wanted to let you know that one of the recent Over-the-Air Updates for your 2021 MUSTANG MACH-E was unsuccessful. This can happen for all sorts of reasons. Don’t worry. There’s nothing you need to do. We’ll try again with your next regularly scheduled update. Thanks.

I wonder if there a logic to which VIN gets the OTA updates... no updates for me yet at all...may be it’s because I have an Edge that looks like the Mach E ?

Give them some slack, they were likely very busy working on Ford Sketch

Honestly though, when you're playing with people's lives, TONS of testing has to be done to make sure it's not buggy or leave the vehicle in an unoperable state. This is their first big vehicle launch with this technology, so they're going to be very cautious out of the gate.

This is a frequent excuse. I’m not a programmer so I could be completely off base, but some of these bugs seem easy to fix without overhauling the entire interface, and, regardless, would be gated off from impacted mechanical operation.

For example, fixing the bug that refuses to retain the Alarm Interior Motion Sensors: Off setting should be super easy, right? Super aggravating for some of us, super easy to fix, been reported for over two months, and nothing. Always an excuse (not from Ford - we don’t get anything from Ford - but from other earnest, well-meaning posters on this forum).

I will concede that the FordPass problems are probably more complicated. I suspect that one culprit is that car is not communicating properly, quickly and frequently enough, with Ford’s servers. Or it is a problem with Ford’s servers.

Often problems like the one you mentioned with the setting not sticking are the hardest to solve since it doesn’t happen to everybody. Transient bugs are hard to track down especially when you can’t reproduce them. It’s probably more complex than simply setting a flag somewhere. Could be something like the Sync module sending a message to another module who maybe is missing the message for some weird reason. Who knows. If it was obvious it probably wouldn’t have been a problem in the first place.

Also, the Mach E software team is probably WAY smaller than you think it is. Ford is a huge company, but it has thousands of teams, and each team is probably the smallest size it can be and still function. At least that’s the way most large companies work.
