How are the panoramic roofs holding up? I heard they're gorilla glass, is that true?

I'm scared something would happen to it and it would cost a fortune. I imagine "bird season" must be nice as well...

I imagine some rocks bounce off the roof, they don't ALL manage to hit the front windshield, somehow. at least based on the dents I see on my current car, and occasional loud bangs I hear and can't see anything new on the windsheld...) We've got a rock quarry in the south that all the northerners order from, and a rock quarry in the north that all the southerners order from.... grr....

This is something that I wonder about whenever I consider a tesla as well.

2.5 years, 30k miles... mine's fine. No rock chips so far.

I'm paying for the glass replacement coverage rider on my auto insurance just in case. It's a relatively small increase to the premium for what would amount to a very expensive roof glass replacement, should it ever become necessary.

Bird poo is mostly a factor of where you park. Don't park under a tree... That's easy here, as our trees are usually quite small, sadly. At any rate, much easier to clean shit off glass than off paint.

You didn't ask the question that most people ask regarding the glass. No, it doesn't make my interior noticeably warmer. I don't feel any heat radiating on my scalp, for instance. Whatever magic films are embedded in the glass are doing the job quite well.

One rock hit on the roof that was injected and has preformed well since. Windshield replaced once due to rock hits than freezing rain. Rocks are common on the road in the spring due to how much salt and sand is thrown on them here every winter. No tailgating in the spring but still the luck of the draw sometimes as an oncoming transport fires one at you. Have not read the roof has been a huge issue on this forum to date. Some stress checking under warranty but not rocks. Saw one post with a tree branch through the roof but that would have been body work on a fixed roof and may have cost more.

There's a freeway style billboard in the parking lot of my workplace. everyone has learned to avoid the two or three spaces to either side of it (there is only a single row of parking). Unfortunately our parking lot is also too small now (we've been growing), so thats a problem.

26mths & 65,000 miles and pano roof OK ?

Not as susceptible as windscreen because stones etc should mostly obliquely glance off roof.

Unlike windscreen - had 2 replacements fitted, the last looked like I’d followed a gritter for 10,000 miles?

It will survive 1.75" hail but if a sharp rock hits the front edge just right they crack. If you're worried, add a strip of rubber to protect the front edge.

After 2 1/4 years, our roof cracked. It wasn't clear why (no particular signs of rock impact, but who knows). This puts the roof squarely in the "one more thing to worry about" category, which is a first for me when it comes to car roofs. On the other hand, my insurance covered 100% of the replacement--and the experience with the auto glass company was way nicer than any service experience I've ever had with a car dealership.

Yep. I was worried about this when getting mine (didn't even want the glass roof but I had to in order to get the tech package). I've been super impressed with whatever IR treatment it has and I'm shocked other cars don't have it. Seems like Teslas turn into easy bake ovens, for example.

i saw a post on here where there was a hail storm and the body took damage but not the glass roof.

i had my detailer add extra clear uv-protection to the roof (and windscreen) to eliminate anything that ford left out

2 yrs, 40K Mi and no problem. I live in SoCal but it has only been slightly warmer in terms of interior heat difference. Have a SUV with metal roof and it's way hotter!

I caught a rock right at the front of the panoramic roof and I've got a crack extending the entire length of the roof. Replacement will be about $1600-$1800 and I'm opening a claim to handle.

Note that some insurers' glass coverage does not cover the roof - glass is traditionally defined as the windshield and windows. My carrier, Travelers, excludes the roof so it unfortunately goes under my comprehensive.

Even with this unfortunate repair, I'm not too concerned. I've had my Tesla for 5 years and almost 90K miles and the roof is still perfect.

And OP, I can't remember the last time I had a bird dive-bomb either car, but I keep some detailing spray in the car for just the occasion.

I would guess that bird poop isn't nearly the problem with the panoramic roof as it would be with a painted roof. The glass I am sure is less suseptible to damage from the poop. Of course, it's more unsightly from inside the car with the panoramic roof. ?‍♂?

1 year and got a chip right at the front next to the windshield that caused a crack. It took over 5 weeks to get repaired because of part availability (or dealer laziness). Looking at installing some type of protection at the windshield seem

When we got our first Mach-E in 2021, I made sure to add my glass coverage to it (zero deductible). I also got in writing that ALL safety glass is covered no matter where it is on the vehicle. I have that saved in my files.

There is too much glass on these vehicles to not explore the cost of this coverage. On my policy, which just renewed in August, the annual cost is as follows:

2013 F-150: $25.60
2022 Mach-E: $83.20
2022 Lightning: $78.40

This represents 4.6% of my total policy cost. It's a no brainer, when you look at the cost of the glass, coupled with recalibration of cameras and/or sensors.
