While I understand (and somewhat appreciate) the idea of no back window... I don't think I'd like it.

Thinking about everyone else in the car besides the driver, no one else can look behind the car.

It boggles me that the US requires side view mirrors, but no rear window is fine.
RVs, commercial trucks, windowless vans, etc.

Side mirrors are definitely more necessary than a rear window.

But yeah, not sure I would like it.

For one thing, when backing up, you’re not supposed to look at the tiny rear view mirror, need a wider view actually turning your head backwards.

Even with the wide view and huge screen of our 360 cameras, I still look back and to the sides. The cameras just can’t see what’s coming from the sides as well as my eyes. And cross traffic alert doesn’t work in all circumstances. For example a parking lot that’s next to a road. It detects the cars on the road, not what’s in the parking lot.

I just can't get over the lack of a rear window! What if the camera lens is blocked by grime or dust or salt. Plus I bet I'll get motion sickness looking at the video camera rear view mirror.
My last car, a Chevy Bolt, had a video rear view mirror. In some respects it was fantastic - you could tint the back window or load up the trunk as much as you want and you could still see out of the back great. In the daytime it was awesome, I believe it even showed a wider field of view than a regular mirror. Turning on the front windshield washer would also clean the rear camera which was cool. HOWEVER... it was absolutely awful at night. Just a black screen with a couple white circles when a car was behind you. To be fair, you could toggle it off and have a normal mirror. Hopefully this Polestar camera has better nighttime performance.

I think it would be easier for passengers to see out the back actually. With a regular mirror only people sitting at the right angle can see out of the back properly.

Hmm, didn't think of it that way. You may be right.

But I was thinking kids in the back seat turning around after I say "hey look at that" as I'm driving by.

Oh OK I see what you mean. Yeah I agree it would be hard to get used to!

For commercial/recreational vehicles I get it. For this though?

As for looking back vs staring at a screen, I'm with you. This was a something I had to focus on teaching my teenager to drive.

The requirement to add backup cameras was terrible in my opinion. Audible sensors are much better.

I thought the Bolt rear view camera worked fine, night and day.

Oh I don’t like it.

The RV and commercial vehicle point was merely about why side mirrors are legally required but rear windows aren’t.

Looks nice but isn’t he polestar 3 kind of the same? Kinda odd they’re releasing 2 crossovers at the same time. Was hoping for a more of a sports car.

I actually considered a used polestar 2 before the Mach E but the cup holder situation was unacceptable.
