Alright, I did some preliminary testing and despite the release notes there are some significant changes in this update!
  • New Hold & Apply parking brake feature. When you shift into park, the service brakes will hold the vehicle while the parking brake is automatically applied every time. This prevents bouncing off the park pawl. When you shift into drive, the parking brake is automatically disengaged. This feature basically makes using the parking brake switch unnecessary (except for emergency braking) and it functions like a Tesla.
  • Regen ramp/accelerator pedal calibration changes. Regen feels different now. There were some new regen ramping patterns in the calibration it seems like, which initially were a bit annoying to me. Feels less smooth than before and requires more pedal adjustments, but perhaps I'll get used to it. Decel rate also feels faster approaching 0 mph. See more below.
  • Slightly Longer En-route Preconditioning. The distance from the charger where battery heating for DCFC begins has been increased slightly. From 30 km (19 mi) to 35 km (22 mi). Preconditioning remains a FAIL in winter temps (28ÂșF) because it only heated my battery up +3ÂșC in that distance. Battery temp at charger arrival was only 14ÂșC, well short of the 26ÂșC target. I will reiterate my longstanding recommendation to Ford of increasing the start distance to 100+ km to provide ample time. There was some evidence the start distance may now be dynamic, this requires further testing.
  • There are likely other new changes I will discover with further testing.

Some more about the regen, here are three subsequent 65-5 MPH decelerations in 1PD on flat ground in the three different drive modes (kW graph). Whisper seems to have a slight 2-step ramp at the beginning, which is a bit odd because it feels like the regen suddenly kicks up a notch after a second. The initial ramp rate may be steeper than before. There is also a "lump" near the peak regen point (which was previously present). Other than those two artifacts (which are repeatable) the curve shape is exactly the same as Engage. Engage feels like the smoothest 1PD regen other than the initial hit. Last, I overlayed Engage's curve on Unbridle, and there is a difference there, as expected Unbridle has a much faster/steeper initial ramp to the regen peak (which is around 55 mph), but the same profile afterwards as the other modes.

It's strange you noticed the lump too during deceleration. I noticed it a couple times yesterday for the first timr and you can heard a thunk and feel it when something disengages as i am using regen braking from 60moh down to zero. It happens less than 15mph if i have to estimate. Almost like a worn out ICE car with driveline lash, hard downshift gear swap, or like torque converter clunk. It's nerve wracking and it seems like I am going to get wheel/motor lockup at any time. Wondering if I should avoid highway speeds to avoid a spinoff. It's going into shop in a week for squeaky brakes at crawling speeds during mechanical engagement.

I'm only at 6.2 which I recieved on 10/12/23.

You’re describing something completely different. My car doesn’t make a thunk and is completely smooth passing through 15 mph. Dealer should take a look at yours.

I usually get new updates pretty quick but not this one yet. I checked my LVB SoC and it was at 72%, so that could be why. I charged it up to 81% and will see if comes soon.
A low 12V battery will not prevent you from getting updates, it will cause them to fail. There’s a difference. You will get the pending update notification when it’s time, there’s nothing you can do to make that show up if the server isn’t ready to release it to you. You don’t have to worry about the 12V battery unless you get a failed update notification several times.

Big powertrain update!

Note: Latest versions from this update are on the left side, columns are labeled incorrectly.

22 minute inhibit update, but completed in about 11 minutes. Only used 14% of the 12V battery, impressive.
So this is the OTA version of CSP 23B50 then?

My MME has had the auto apply parking brake when in park for a few months. I thought it made the parking brake switch unnecessary too, before I noticed two things.
The first is if you put the car in park and (which now applies the parking brake) then manually apply the parking brake (via the switch) you will hear another mechanical sound under the car, so something else is happening when you manually pull the switch.
The second, and bigger difference, is when you manually apply the parking brake the brake will not be automatically released when you shift into gear, it will stay engaged.

I sent a video of this to Ford and they said it's designed like this. No issue to them. The other noise you're hearing is the parking break trying to be applied but since it's already applied it does nothing other than toggle the option to display in ipc

Werid. Mine stuck in 6.2 that will not install m

To get past that, I had to put a 12v battery charger on my car ('23 GT Perf) and top it off. Then 6.2.0 finally applied.

HOWEVER ... once I got 6.2, I never got anything newer and it's been about 10 days. I was surprised when more than a week elapsed with no attempt to advance to the next update.

I been thinking about trying this.

Are you in the EAP? Nothing past 6.2.0 has been pushed to non EAP vehicles AFAIK

EDIT: It has since been pointed out to me that at least some non-EAP '22 vehicles have 6.4

It definitely is the new intended behavior.
That’s good to know about the sound.
The biggest difference seems to be that when you manually set the parking brake it will not automatically be released when you shift out of park. That’s good for hilly driveways like mine.

I'm nervous that they are messing around with the parking brake again. My '21 Job 1 had the parking brake engage while I was driving and would not release for hours. This happened several times in Oct & Nov 2021 until the parking pawl jammed the rear motor, destroying it (while it was at the dealership) - they had to tow it into a bay. Hopefully they haven't changed the logic "don't apply brake when car is in motion". But as a long-time software engineer, I have seen "the new guy" change critical bug fixes that they didn't understand and regress behavior.
