PPF on windshield.

My Mach E GT is scheduled in 4 days for PPF on the windshield to prevent chips and cracks. Has anyone had this done and regretted it? Also did it interfere with the camera and automatic windshield washer?

I have had Ceramic Pro's Windshield Protection Film on my '24 GT for almost 2 years, no regrets at all. It's also on my '20 GT500 and '23 Maverick. Has not interfered with the camera or windshield washer. There are a few little nicks in the film here and there but the windshield glass is in perfect condition. Prior to using the film, I would be replacing at least one if not two windshields a year.

I have the same protection film on my 2024 GT that Mark has on his. Also have it on my 2018 Tacoma. Prior to getting the film seems like we were replacing at least 2 a year. I never had this issue when I lived in CA but when we moved to AZ, it seems to be a thing here. Even my insurance company allows 2 replacements per year per vehicle. I just don't like going through the hassle of having it replaced.

I think you have been unlucky with your windshields. Hopefully you won't ever have to replace it again. Just make sure it is protection film made specifically for windshields. It is a very hard 8mil special plastic film.

I contacted my local detailer after learning about it from Mark Boris. And while they said they would do it, they told me to expect no more than 3 years of life out of the film, given Chicago road conditions. So I’d say it depends on where you live. It would have been $500 to install. My car got hit from behind a few days after I reached out to them, so I ended up not doing it.

I drive very little and the time I spend on the highway is typically in heavy traffic. So no need for me to worry about. Last time I broke a windshield was 10 years ago.

Soon it will be going on 3 years and it still looks great except for a few nicks which could have possibly caused a chip or crack in the windshield if the film was not on it. Like Joe, I just don't want to go through the hassle of having the windshield replaced.

I hear you, brother. I am a big fan of all things PPF. I have it on very silly parts of my Mach-E. I was frankly surprised how they ultimately dissuaded me from putting it on. It felt like they didn’t want to do it. And they are some of the best in the biz (Chicago Auto Pros).

Like you said, you don't drive your car much and you are in traffic a lot when on the freeway. I don't live in a big city and the freeways rarely have traffic plus there are a lot of logging, cement, construction trucks around here. I love PPF too! My entire front end plus headlights, and mirror caps have it and my 30K mile GT still looks brand new without one nick or scratch on it.

Last week I took my first longer range road trip with this car in 1.5 years of owning. Just a 100 miles out.... thwack!!!... "ouch, what what was that dad!?"... Nothing like hearing that loud hit to the windshield.... didn't see the rock this time but man we heard it... chip. Dang it. Last car I took a hit on highway too and got it replaced. Worst experience ever. Safelite. Totally leaked when storm hit 3 days later. They re-did it of course, but the interior was never the same... traded it in for the mach e actually right after that. maybe this chip i can fill for now before it spiders out.

It’s a very tricky repair. The three most important things are: clean base, enough adhesive at the right temp, and not driving the car for 24-48 hours afterwards. Last time I had it done with safelite, they drove into the garage and fixed it while it was in my parking spot. I had waited till the spring because the adhesive doesn’t cure well in low temps. Again, doable, but man so tricky.

Also, this is WPF, not PPF. Windshield Protection Film is generally 8mil and a polymer plastic. Paint Protection Film is also around 8mil but an elastic polyurethane material.

My local ceramic pro dealer refuses to install windshield film. I last asked him about a year and a half ago. I need to ask him again.

had it done 8 months ago upon deliverof 25 plate GT in uk. wouldnt be without it. even had the glass roof done.

Windshield protection film is what you want. It is stronger than PPF. I am about to replace my Windshield and my glass roof and plan to get the WPF soon after.
