I pulled my Mach E out of the garage and started to drive down the road. I heard a thumping sound coming from the rear end, sounding like I pick up a nail or flat spotted tire. Getting out and inspecting the tires I didn't find a nail and both tires looked fine. ('24 Mach E premium with only 15K miles).
Now my concern switched to a potentially deeper problem. Was it the differential? The shocks? Searching the forum I couldn't find anyone with a similar problem; doing a search on You Tube I found problems I didn't even want to imagine
This all happened on a Sunday morning.
The first thing Monday I called my local Ford dealer, but couldn't reach my service supervisor. I made and appointment and figured I would limp into the dealership
I pulled in and proceed to the service counter. Right a way the service supervisor said to me if he knew I was coming in he would have told me what to do to solve the problem.
I seems Ford issued a service bulletin a while back notifying the service techs that after prolong use of the one pedal breaking system, the regenerative breaking system "flat spots" on the rotor and up get a thumping noise that I described. To solve the issue, you simply turn off the the One Pedal Breaking system and make a few hard stops using the hydraulic breaks. He had the same problem in his GT and it resolved his "flat spotting" in no time. I looked at him as I thought he was crazy but said I'd try it.
No sooner that I got in the car, turned off the one pedal breaking and drove out off the parking lot, the thumping was gone. Magic! An easy fix that didn't cost a dime.
Why this hasn't been brought up in the forum or on the internet is beyond me. If this would have happened on a trip, I probably would have call for a flat bed truck and spent money for nothing getting to a dealership I didn't know
Please be aware of the issue and a very easy fix. Once the the thumping went away, the one pedal breaking worked as normal
A simple problem with an easy FIX!!!
