Has anybody else been getting these emails from Ford Motor Company recently to reset your password because they've detected suspicious activity? This is the 3rd one I've received in the past 4 days!
I have received the same a few days ago. I went to the Ford website and reset it. I did not use any link.

Sounds like you ran into this problem:
https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-use-can-disable-your-fordpass-account.13893/

Recurrent and multiple power companies use Smartcar or a similar system that violates the terms on your account.

1. Reset your password
2. Do not give your password to your Recurrent, your power company, etc. and don't sign into your FordPass or Ford.com account through their interface
3. Contact the company you are dealing with (Recurrent, your power company, etc.) and tell them to remove your credentials from their system
4. Contact Smartcar (supplier of the API) and tell them to remove your credentials from their system

If you don't, Ford will disable your FordPass, Phone as a Key, and any Ford.com accounts you have.

Wouldn't resetting the password automatically cut off access or can these companies continue to access your car's data through previous credentials?

The problem is the system continues to hammer away at the Ford servers, this time with your user account but the wrong password. The server still gets pissed at you.

Yes. After two months of having FordPass connected to ev.energy, I've gotten 4 reset your password emails in four days. Seems like Ford is cracking down. Don't offer an API if you aren't going to allow people to use it for anything... just sayin'.

I got that when I enrolled my new MME in Recurrent about a week ago. I logged back in, and all was well. But after reading the thread about Recurrent, I just removed my car. I like the premise of tracking battery health on a wide spectrum, but they seem to be more interested in being a car dealer than a battery health tracker.
Be sure to also remove it from Smartcar or whatever middleware Recurrent uses these days, and change your FordPass password.

Those yahoos are ruthless.

As a precaution, I went ahead and reset the password. There's no indication that I have an account at Smartcar.
It's possible Recurrent no longer uses Smartcar. One of the (many) problems with their setup in the past though, was that when adding your vehicle to Recurrent, it would present a page that looks similar to the Ford login page but it was actually Smartcar acting as an imposter without Ford's permission. So you provide your credentials to a third party while it appears like you're logging in directly with Ford. (Other than the url, which said Smartcar.)

It's weird how this email showed up today not long after I disconnected my car from Recurrent and changed my password.

"Some of our Ford drivers have experienced a data sharing issue with vehicles connected to Recurrent.

It seems Ford’s security team may have overreached in their efforts to protect customer accounts recently, sending “suspicious login” or FordPass lockout emails from Ford. Drivers may be prompted to update their passwords with FordPass. With each password change and/or lockout, your vehicle will get automatically disconnected from Recurrent.

We encourage any affected Ford drivers previously connected – or who have been prompted to reconnect – to remove your vehicle from Recurrent and hold off on reconnecting your vehicle to Recurrent until this issue is fixed. You can do this in your Recurrent Dashboard (click here), click “settings” for that vehicle, and “Remove” under the green vehicle icon.

If you receive an automated email from us to reconnect your Ford vehicle to Recurrent, please disregard it.

We are working with our partners to find a solution. Auto manufacturers rightfully need to safeguard driver accounts, but also have a responsibility to ensure their drivers have access to their own data.

If you were connected to Recurrent at any point in October, you may still receive a report link tomorrow (November 1st) as you would any other month – but please keep in mind that some data points may be missing due to this connectivity issue.

We will reach out to affected Ford drivers when we have a solution in place. In the meantime, we appreciate your support of Recurrent and your patience!

Looking forward to this being resolved for you,

- Andrew"
Got that same e-mail today.

Interesting...

They want to whitewash the whole thing and make it sound like they're justified stealing your data.

With each password change and/or lockout, your vehicle will get automatically disconnected from Recurrent.
That is the indented behavior. To stop the unauthorized account access.

There's your problem. Contact whoever you gave your credentials to and ask them to stop using them immediately. (and change your password)
I don't think this is the solution. Especially for those like myself who are looking to get the Monetary benefit that these incentives provide. Last month alone coned sent me a $80 check for charging offpeak hourse. I will contact Ford to see if there is any further accommodation they can make with their system for linking with such energy service and also contact coned to see If there is any other verification they can use to validate the charging In order to get the incentive.

I connect my Ford pass app with my con Edison ev.energy app in order to get con edison's energy incentives. I hope they find a solution soon because those like me, would like to continue getting these incentives to save on energy costs. Just last month alone Con ed compensated me with $80.00 for charging off peak hours and I have no intention of stopping this unless ford disables my account. I will try and do a work around by perhaps disabling my Ev.energy app when I am not using it and see if I continue to get this security warning!

I went through all of this over a year ago. Recurrent is slower at resolving it than Ford was at delivering Blue Cruise (but not frunk buttons) for my FE.

This is incorrect, Ford has an easily accessible and publicly documented API system. You can sign up for access and read the docs at https://developer.ford.com/apis.
