I'm looking at a weekend of driving for helping my parents out. I can easily make the one way trip on Friday in my MME from Huntsville, AL to Milton GA on my standard range RWD MME, I may actually stop in Rome GA at a Charge Point station or a EA in Woodstock, GA that is a bit out of the way but will give me a good top off and then I can L1 charge at my sisters house that night to 100%. My issue right now is that I have to take my parents, mid 70s from Milton GA to Dunlap TN and back in 1 day. Looking at route options I'm limited to EVgo stations that say 50kw, which is slower then the stations I've used previous (CP and EA). I checked my charge logs and those faster charges do seem to spike to mid 70kw for about a 1/4 of the time then go under 50kw to get to 80%.

If I was running this by myself I'd do it but not sure of the stops and my elderly parents being present I'm not sure I should bother.

I think that is very doable and you'll be fine for no longer than that trip is. I make a similar trip regularly that only has 50kw stations. It's not so bad. 2 people in their 70's need the bathroom and take longer, so you should be fine. If the weather is nice, toss a couple camp chairs in the frunk and sit outside for a few minutes while you charge.

Have a good time and chat with your folks for a while :)

It seems like the route is about 170-200 miles depending on the route you take. Given this, I think you will be fine, you may need to do 1 charging stop each way but that shouldn't be a problem and is a nice opportunity to stretch your legs.

Correct. This is a non-issue. OP needs to do better planning.

I have never used EVGO but thanks to Chargepoint I got enough juice to get me to the nearest EA station! It was slow DC charging but the price was right!

I know about that EA Station in Chattanooga, it is out of the way with the most direct route to Dunlap TN, it easily adds 30-45 min with traffic.

Appreciate the feedback, I was mostly wanting to understand the 50kw expectations and rate, I do not want to be driving out of my way on this trip, there is also health issues and concerns too.

The only way you can get to 100% on a level 1 overnight would be if you started at 80%. Give or take…..

Curious what brand chargers EVgo has where you are. In CT and MA there are a lot of BTC "Fatboy" brand chargers that EVgo uses. I've had a lot of difficulty making the "handshake" on these 50 kwh machines. I usually end up calling EVgo, and they let me know there is a ""compatibility issue" with this specific model and the MME. Might want to check the EVgo website and or plushare before going with EVgo.

I've done this trip from my house to my sisters house in GA, I stop at the EA station and top up to 80-90% then park at her house and lvl1 overnight to 100% by the morning, give or take a %. That route is easy to do now that summer range is back to over 200 miles. I'm playing on ABRP now with stops and time. While I appreciate the 'estimates of time impact' the traffic around Chattanooga is terrible and getting worst as someone who drives this area. The out of the way EA is a good option for sure so I'll keep looking.

I have used the 62.5kW Chargepoint in Trenton GA and there is a new one in Fort Payne. Those might be useful to keep from routing through Chattanooga.

This is a Canadian perspective, but I have always had a good experience with Chargepoint chargers. They aren't the fastest at 62kW but I have always gotten peak charging rate and that is something I can't say about Electrify Canada or PetroCanada chargers here in Canada.

Funny thing about perspective..........after spending 25+ years in the Chicago land area traffic in most places doesn't seem so bad.

Not talking to you LA, so don't even?
