I ordered a Premium in 1/14/22 and I’m seeing so many negative posts. I’m I making a mistake in buying the Mach E.
The worst part is the waiting, all the chip delays, and seeing other people that ordered at the same time get their car many (up to 8 for some?) months before you do (understand that Ford's system is anything but "first come first serve"). Or having your built car stuck in a chip hold or rail yard somewhere for 3+ months when no one can provide any additional information the whole time. Expect a poor customer service experience, no one will know anything or will make up lies if you ask. Calling or messaging Ford won't get you anywhere. It can be stressful wondering if it will ever come or what shenanigans your dealer will try to pull on you when it finally comes time to buy it. Tweeting Ford management, hoping they see it, and praying for a response in time may be necessary to resolve greedy dealer issues. Your finance guy won't know how to do Ford Options until you can get them in contact with their regional rep for help. Some of us have been waiting almost a whole year, many months longer than anticipated. Your car will have BlueCruise, and OTA updates will hopefully be working by the time you get yours, so you fortunately miss that drama. Plan on it taking up to a year for delivery, and possibly missing out on the tax rebate for 2022 if it's not delivered before the end of the year. Features you ordered may also be removed with little or no warning to you.

Once you get the car it's pretty good and is fun to drive, but you'll have to get used to some odd software bugs, glitches with PAAK, and lack of heat on cold winter days in the northern US and Canada. Understand Ford is very slow/bad at software releases, so expect upwards of 6 months before fixes for even simple issues are released. Getting service at a dealer is also frustrating because of many incompetent service managers and techs (some of which resent EVs) that may not have the proper training or tools to work on your Mach-E even though they work at an EV-certified dealer. You may be turned away from dealer appointments because the service manager didn't understand the nature of the repairs the first time, so 2-3 appointments may be required to solve an issue. If you have a major issue (which is rare, but happens), expect to be without your car for 2-8 weeks (rental coverage is another issue). The long wait is for parts to be procured and delivered (perhaps diverted from the factory), for special EV service tools to arrive, or for special Ford service engineers to arrive to show the dealer mechanics how to work on your car. Last, in some cases you'll have to bring your car to another EV-certified dealer after it's determined the first EV-certified dealer didn't have the required training or tools to do EV repairs.

The car itself is great, but actually getting it and dealing with the abysmal current state of the Ford ecosystem (and the car market in general) can be extremely frustrating and stressful. Other brands may offer a better buying and service experience, although these issues aren't exclusive to Ford. Ford just seems to have the most problems right now all things combined. Believe it or not I've been a lifelong Ford fan, it's been hard to watch the decline in the past few years. A lot of these problems weren't known yet when I ordered, other than the estimated wait time back then (only 4-6 months, ha) I was blissfully ignorant about the extent of the dysfunction.

I've owned two Model 3s, an ID.4, and now the MME. I hoped the MME would have the best qualities of the Model 3 and ID.4. Driving engagement and more exotic appearance from the Model 3 and space, utility, ride comfort, and all-weather capabilities of the ID.4. I think it checks all those boxes except ride comfort. Unfortunately, that's proving to be a big challenge to me. I'm also still calibrating myself to the MME's relatively pessimistic (but maybe more realistic) GOM. Range should be within 10% of the ID.4 based on efficiency and battery capacity, but the MME would never tell you that. It was certainly easier to maximize cold weather range in the ID.4 by modulating the HVAC. Seats and seating position are also just better in the ID.4 for me and my body.

I still hope a combination of warmer weather (less frost heave and softer tires), different tires, and/or suspension upgrades (when available) will sort out my ride quality complaints. We'll see. I think Ford's calibration of shocks/struts, spring rates, tires, and tire inflation recommendation is just wrong.

I would agree with this. I absolutely love the car, and I have had no technical issues whatsoever. I certainly wouldn't go back to ICE.

However, I do find the ride comfort disappointing. It's odd, because I test drove 2 MMEs of the same spec as mine before buying one, and it was not an issue I picked up on. Maybe reading these forums has made me more aware of it!

My advice would be test drive the car. If you are happy with the ride, then don't let anything else stop you. Its great!

Going on 8 months ownership. Love the Car!!! Can never go back to ICE auto. I really have not had any "real" issues with the car. PAAK worked after my 1st update. Although I did talk my dealer into a 2nd fob for free. But they just sit on the hook as my phone has never failed me. Every blue moon, you get a weird software bug; but normally resolved next time you turn the car on.

The car is comfortable and a head turner.

Many problems have little to do with the car itself and are more about the corporate/dealer transparency, communication, supply chain dysfunction and shady ethics on the part of some dealers.

I love the car, and while I've had minor inconveniences (and wishing I'd bought an extended range battery vehicle) it's been a very positive ownership experience.

I'm actually one of the negative posts...checking forums is kind of like sticking your head in an emergency ward and concluding that all humans are poorly built and always broken...
I love my mache despite the problems I've had.
I love this analogy!!

Look at the negative posts, filter their concerns away as something to watch out for and enjoy the car. It’ if something comes up, use the search feature to find the issue and it’s resolution.

I love my Mach E. The issues it’s had have been resolved or have resolved themselves (gremlins pop up every now and then). Best car I’ve owned.

Same here with the exception of PAAK. Technically its my Wife’s car but I drive it more than she does. It just made more sense for us to have 2 Fobs!! It’s a fun car to drive and we are both loving it!!

I think Ford made all of those decisions with one thing in mind: EPA range rating. At the moment that’s what sells EVs, and they made some sacrifices to maximize that number the best they could. For $1000 in new tires I fixed one of those problems (and if my range drops I don’t care).

My car was the one affected by:
  • Windshield glass recall
  • Roof glass recall
  • Brake recall

Windshield & roof glass were fine but they needed to be removed and added back. The brakes were just faulty as the plate was attaching which lead to uneven wear and poor braking & shaking wheel.
The roof glass does not need to be removed for the recall, and there is no recall for the brakes (just a TSB).

I own a first edition and early production car. I love the car. You will find every review of the car being very positive and I agree. It is fun to drive. Ford does not provide a direct way to give them feedback so the forums are our best channel to them. The only concern I have about the car is the software and Fords ability to be competitive in it's software long term, which is the real magic of EVs. Today they are slow to put out updates and provide release notes to us. Last fall they hired an executive from Apple so we are hoping they are beginning to understand the importance of the software and ultimately the total experience.

You made a great choice and I am sure will have fun with it.
