Sorry to hear of your situation. Enough other good advice here and I just hope you are made whole/fixed soon.

I was having my Mach E shipped across the country and somehow it was stolen from the transport company's truck. Transport company seems to have left the key fob accessible, and the thief stole it with that. The thief master reset the car so I have no access to it at all from my phone. Luckily the police have found the car, but now it's sitting in an impound lot waiting to be picked up.

Problem is, the police didn't recover the key so now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get into the car so I can get it towed to be appraised for damage. Ford customer service has been entirely unhelpful, and the dealer says that they can't access the factory door code to get into the car. Pretty pissed off that Ford didn't just give me two keys when I bought the car, which would have made this an easily fixable problem. Making this whole thing worse is that I'm not even in the state that the car is in anymore. Any ideas for how I can access the car?

Passenger side footwell. Pull up and back on the panel on the floor to reveal the BCM module with the code printed on the sticker (red box) . In the US only 5 of the 7 digits are used. In other locales all 7 numbers are used as the door code.

Recommending that all Mach-E (or all Ford for that matter) owners take the little card they give you with your door code out of the glove box and store it with your purchase paperwork in your file cabinet. Doesn't do any good to leave it in the car.

You could check with the dealer to see if they recorded the keyless entry code and can give it to you. I assume that the little white card with the number on it is in the car. As far as I know Ford does not have a record of that.

Sorry this is happening to you. I can only imagine how frustrating this is.

Yep. I also email myself the code, with a subject line that's easily searchable. And I save that email to a permanent folder. That way if I ever lose the card or it's locked inside the car, I can just look it up with a quick email search. That's even better than just storing it on my cell phone somewhere, because I get a new phone every few years and could forget to transfer it. But I always have access to my email, via any phone or computer.

So sorry to hear that your car was stolen. ?? Glad it's been recovered. I hope you can get something done about assessing the damage and getting it fixed soon. ??

Bummer that we in the US get the easier to steal code. I'd have preferred the longer code. ??

We should all have the 5 or 7 digit codes for our cars memorized and the card locked up somewhere away from the car. ??

I definitely second emailing yourself the code. Unfortunately I had the code in my files but I was moving across the country so my files were all... in the car . Now it's looking like the only way to get into the car is smashing the window.

Seems like a Ford service dept should be able to ascertain the factory PIN, but I've never had to try.

https://www.holzhauers.com/blog/2019/april/26/ford-keyless-entry.htm

Since you're in another state now, a 2nd fob wouldn't have worked anyway, assuming you'd have the fob with you.

The right tow truck operator should at least be able to move it to a dealer. But from what we're seen, it takes a flatbed and dollies to get it onto the flatbed if you can't get into the car to put it in tow mode.

Breaking a side window seems like a last resort. But if the transport company's insurance is paying for it anyway, I guess it's all just a relative cost decision at this point. If you know the fob is inside, replacing the window may not be that much more expensive than the tow.

FYI you can program the door code to whatever number you want.

Does a global reset wipe out the new door code and set it back to the default? Or once you change it does the new code stick until it is specifically changed?

Just to clarify, you can add additional codes, but you can’t change or remove the original factory door code. It’s important to have a record of the factory door code in case your custom codes get wiped out for some reason.

While we on the Forum have helped each other many times be careful giving info on how to get in or around the vehicle security system. Aleaf, as the OP welcome to the forum, see you just joined to post your dilemma, bad luck for sure.

Instead of ways to get around the security system here's Progressives process for stolen vehicles and as you see, once the car is stolen, it's insurance companies property until they figure out what the amount of damage is, I wound not get involved. Especially if it was towed to Police impound and additional damage is done.

I store it as a contact. My contacts are on every device thanks to Google.

Door code is permanently embedded in the BCM.

If you'd like to add your own door code (say you have more than one Ford and you want to open them all with the same code) you must still have the original door code to enter into the display before adding your own 'special sauce' version as an addition. I've been using the same door code since I got it on my 2001 Ford Sport Trac. It's easy to remember and 'works good , lasts a long time', as they say.

You cannot change the factory door code without replacing the BCM. You can only add your own number.

My Mach-E didn't come with the card with the factory code, but it didn't matter because it let me program my own door code when I set up Phone As A Key. I guess I'm not sure, though, whether the code I programmed would get wiped out in a master reset of the car.
