I’ve gotten the message “system off to save battery” on the center console about six times this past week. It’s been there most mornings when I start the car.
I’ve had the car since December and this is the first week I’ve seen this message.

I wait for the progress bar to time out or turn the car off and back on again and it seems to be ok.

what’s going on? 12v battery issue? Something else?

12v battery. When did you last charge the car?

Is your car usually connected to your phone while it’s off? Make sure your sync screen isn’t coming on and staying on all night. I had same issue but fixed it by turning off welcome lighting.

Are you getting in and turning the car on in accessory mode, meaning no foot on the brake when you press power on? When I’ve had this come up, it’s only ever been when idling in accessory mode. Just turn the car fully on instead of accessory mode, if that’s the case.

I am also getting this same warning/error. Vehicle is dark once locked so no screen drawing current after a short time.

Definitely not in accessory mode.

I get it at times just by opening the door to load stuff in. As soon as I open...both displays come to life and the big display just has the animations for a bit, then shut off. Except when this error is present, which is infrequent.

My assumption is that the vehicle is trying to protect the 12v battery.

So I’ve been getting this recently too.

I did a test:

I fully charged my LVB last week, and ran around….the message seemed to go away. A few days later….it’s back. I don’t use accessory mode, just drive the car as normal. So today…about 7 days later when I got the message again, I measured the voltage. 14.7 volts when MME is on, and when the car is off, voltage drops to 12.4V. It doesn’t seem to drop lower than that.

So as far as I’m concerned, there is naff all wrong with my LVB, so what is the car bitching about. Very weird.

Interestingly, the widget shows this…

  • batteryLevel: 12
  • batteryStatus: STATUS_LOW

I’ve just done another full LVB charge, and no sign of that message. I’ll count the days to it’s return.

OK, so just another update on my second test so far.....

This time, after fully charging my LVB, I made one significant difference. I was hoping it wouldn't be this, but so far.....the "System off to save battery" has not returned.

The only difference this time.....was I removed the Scriptable widget from my iPad. I know, I know...this is only supposed to query the Ford Server data, but it can wake the car using the "Request Refresh" button in the widget.

I only removed the widget, I haven't uninstalled Scriptable or the script, just haven't used it.

As much as I don't want it to be this, so far, by not having the scriptable widget displaying on my iPad, I have not had the return of this screen.

So, as I say...this is just my findings....if any of you above want to do the same test, then fully charge your LVB, and try removing the scriptable widget from your devices.

Obviously, if this changes in any way, I shall come back and update the thread, but just thought I'd update people on my findings.....

I love the widget, and did use it quite a bit, but for now, I'll run for another few weeks without it just to see if that screen returns.....

Some of you above may not even use the widget....in which case, the cause may be something else.

I'd like to point out this bulletin: SSM 50804 - 3rd Party Phone Apps/Widgets May Cause 12V Battery Drains

Perhaps @tonesto7 would like to comment or ask some questions?

Is this the widget you are talking about?
