I am surprised they didn't shave another $2k off the Model Y Performance. It would be a pretty tempting proposition at $47,500 after tax credit.
Many families that were buying these (like in California) do not qualify for the tax credit anymore.
For those who do qualify, there is always the possibility of sellling below the $55k IRA limit after the car is used as a demo/loaner for a few hundred miles.

I researched a ton at the time. There is no evidence the interior or sound dampening is any different in the RWD one. The stereo was way worse than the LR, that’s for sure. But I don’t think the LR has any better build quality. That’s just made up. It’s virtually identical to a long range except it’s missing a motor and extra batteries. In fact, the speakers from the better stereo were actually installed in mine, just not the amp and the speakers were not connected. That’s teslas whole thing. Make them almost the same to streamline manufacturing.
You guys may be arguing totally different cars. I'm still a novice when it comes to Teslas but I know they make changes all the time mid-cycle. For 2023, they also have new suspensions and better noise dampening. So even against a 2022 or 2021 the differences could be significant. I'll probably do a review once mine comes in lol - comparing a 2023 MY against my 2022 Premium and old 2021 Select.

The $55k limit is based on MSRP, not selling price. It’s in Ford’s hands to reduce MSRP or offer cash back incentives to offset their big price difference/lack of eligibility for buyers to claim the tax credit.

Even in CA there are plenty of Tesla drivers under the salary threshold for the tax credit. That is fairly irrelevant because a price drop of around $24k (New price - tax credit - sales tax saving) would open up MANY more potential buyers earning under the salary threshold.

Assuming they have sufficient tax liability to receive the full $7,500. It is a non-refundable credit.

With the standard deduction a single person earning $68,000 would pay over $7,700 tax, so its unlikely there are many folks that buy $50k cars that don't have sufficient tax liability.

It is very tempting, but man is that just a Tupperware looking appliance car. The price, AWD and range is all it has going for it. $1k to $1.5k for paint color since white is only option. $1k for white interior, forget getting enhanced driver $6k, nicer rims $1k....

I've been on and built a blue several times, but can't push purchase. Ford has been a disappointment since the MME came out to me, I'm at dealership now for part of my recall from Thursday that they didn't have the key Fob in stock even though I was scheduled in Dec with what they should order. It is not surprising every recall I've ever had on A Ford is the same experience. Maybe I'll be stupid and jump in the Chevy RV Silverado RST...

Actually, if you look at the demographics, a lot of higher priced cars are bought by retirees - including those that retire early. They often don't have sufficient tax liability and have to create it with things like a Roth conversion.

The deal is only if you take delivery by March. Might not get the full $7500 after battery requirements come out.
The price cut has no delivery deadline.

Maybe in Florida but not in other States, especially CA. Having a good excuse for a Roth conversion isn't a bad thing though.

Yeah, lots of them here on Long Island too. IMHO they need to refresh the style, they all look the same to me. Love the look of the MME.
In Quebec, most EVs are Teslas. Most of the most are white with the ugly looking wheels.

To each their own, but I like the Tesla look. It is timeless, like a Porsche. Only needs subtle tweaks. Same for the Mach-E.
I always thought the Model S was good-looking. Designed by Mercedes, wasn't it? 10 years old now. Model 3 is inoffensive, and the Tesla SUVs are ugly.

But I don't mind driving an ugly car. I don't really understand people wanting their car, or even their truck, to be pretty.

That's the only part of your post that really matters. The rest is you trying to sound smart, which you are, btw. I agree with the points. But since you mentioned facts:

On top of the net profit margins I posted above, listen to what Munro said during CES last week, days before the cut. He pretty much predicted it.

Then look at this note from the Deutsch Bank. https://m.investing.com/news/stock-...d-offensive-move-reiterates-buy-432SI-2980294

This is tesla leveraging its vertically integrated supply chain and economies of scale to try and crush the competition.
