Well, the light doesn't come on. Either it is bad, or my tap is bad...
Is there a way to get the license lamp assembly out without pulling the liftgate off? I know it was easy in my Escape and Explorer...

I doubt the light it bad in the switch. If you have a VOM I would check to make sure you have 12+V where you tapped into the Gray/Blue wire going to the license plate lamp. That lamp assembly should pop out of the liftgate easily. Unfortunately I cannot check that out since I'm on the east coast this week and won't be home until Monday.

Well Mark, I had to give it a shot, I popped out the LP light, Don't do it from the outside! You must open up the liftgate trim and release from the inside.
I tried with a little plastic spudge and it did give quite easily, but whatever little tab was there broke off...

If you see one that looks like this, don't buy it, the tab is broken!

The circuit all the way back to the switch measured good, so the led in the lamp or the litle pcb is bad.
Might explain why it was on eBay to begin with...

We use our kick to open all the time. When people say "I can't make it work", I usually think "yeah, no surprise there". ?

The fact that this isn't a feature anymore would have me considering not buying a Mach-E if I was in the market. But I don't expect to be in the market for a Mach-E again.

What are you looking at for your next vehicle? I am a Job 1 Mach-e and placed a reservation for the Rivian R2. Was hoping Ford would have a redesigned Mach-e but doesn't look likely.

R2 is top of my list. My slot is Nov/Dec, but I may delay it until they put in the new tech in 2027.

I am Nov-Dec as well and thinking the same thing. Lots of videos about it on Youtube. Sounds like it won't be useful for at least a few years, I don't do many long road trips more short trips around town so likely won't use the eyes free much anyway.
