Toyota C-HR sadly gone, MME RWD ER now with us!

Hello- did someone call?

Many thanks @David-HC for the heads up. Yes I';ve been in touch with Motorway- a few times- I explained that my circumstances meant my C-HR won't be available until mid September at least. That was no problem and they agreed to stay in touch- and they have!
I regulary have re-appraisals of values from them and astonishingly it keeps climbing. Due to the fact their is a huge shortage of new and late reg cars on the market creating a huge demand.

Just to give you an example, back in Late April my Ford dealer was offering (on-line) a valuation of just under £11k (my C-HR is a 2017 excel with just under 30k miles ) I bought the car January 2019 for £20K.

Last week Motorway gave me a valuation of just under £18k...

We're undecided whether or not to sell the Toyota. It's such a good car we're seriously thinking of keeping it. It owes us nothing- all paid for when we bought it. (we'd add the Mustang to our small collection by the way...)

We've got several months to make up our minds. But I would say that anyone who needs to sell or P/ex their car give motorway a try. They have been great to deal with up to now for us. We've tried 'we buy any car' but there's something of the night about them that makes me uneasy- but that's just me! I have no interest financially in these companies btw. Just happy to report what I find!

Have a good weekend everyone and I hope better news is on it's way for a lot of you!

Hi all

A sad day yesterday as I sold my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, after 5 years of excellent service, and no range anxiety after my 30 miles of battery ran out as the engine then took over ? I note a fellow Outlander owner in @BlackheathDiggs who may also have to deal with this trauma soon!

What was notable about the sale was I used ā€œMotorwayā€, and was impressed by both the service they offer and the price they achieved – the latter being significantly more than the Ford PX figure, even allowing for the current increases in used car prices ?

I had mentioned Motorway in an earlier post and @Tony.T expressed an interest, so I have jotted down some thoughts on the process below.

I had thought initially it would be a basic system i.e. provide some general background info on the car and a few pics, and off you go – but it was anything but that, and that’s why it seems so good:

  • You register on the Motorway platform and get an indicative valuation for the car.
  • If you decide to proceed, you then complete a questionnaire on the background and condition of the car etc., probably 15 – 20 questions, and then you have to provide 16 or so photos e.g. 4 each of external views, internal, wheels and tyres.
  • Once these are uploaded/completed, you speak to a rep from Motorway, and he/she runs through and checks everything, and you agree a ā€œreserve priceā€ for your car
  • The car then goes into the next day’s ā€œauctionā€, which is available to the platform’s network of 3,000 or so dealers (I was told they are formally checked and vetted by Motorway before being allowed to access the platform)
  • The auction close at 15:00 on the next day, and you are notified by email of the highest bid/bids received and can then accept or reject any bid. If the bid is at or above the reserve, you simply confirm acceptance – if the bid is below the reserve, Motorway will call to discuss.
  • Once a bid is accepted, the dealer will email you that afternoon or next morning to confirm the bid. They may/will likely ask further questions and pics – in my case I had to complete a 10-minute walk around appraisal – and will then confirm the price/deal
  • They then arrange to pick up the car – hopefully in a couple of days although in my case it was about a week
  • On collection day, the collection agent will check round the car for any other issues, go for a quick test drive, and then call the dealer – if all is still OK the dealer then transfers the money immediately (they will take your bank details when you/they confirm the price, and set you up on their banking system) and once you see it in your account – all done and off they go!
  • If there was anything found on collection that had not been identified previously, the dealer would have the option to discuss and re-negotiate the price with you
In summary, although it seems quite onerous going through the questions and all the pics, I guess it does mean that the dealers have virtually everything they need to make an informed bid, subject to their checks and the collection day checks. Given they have to make the arrangements to pick the car up, there is some incentive for them to act in a sensible and responsible manner, along with the due diligence carried out by Motorway.

I had never looked at using these platforms before to sell a car, and did check a couple out informally but was not particularly impressed. I am a RAC member and checked on their website for advice, which is where I saw the link so I thought I would try it.

You can check their ratings on Trustpilot (as you can similar providers) and I can only recount my experience of their service, which was very good – as was the actual dealer (Aston Vauxhall) who purchased the car.

In 24 hours, I had registered, provided car details, agreed a reserve, accepted a bid above the reserve, and had the dealer contact me. The price was finalised with the dealer the following day, and the car collected a week later.

Hope this helps – apologies for the rather long post ?

Please let me know if any questions and I will do my best to respond
David.
Hi all

I sold my Mazda CX5 AWD through Motorway. I was equally impressed with their modus operandi and reported this on the Forum a few weeks ago. I received £21,350 for the car against £18,500 offered by the main Mazda dealer who had sold it to me brand new 2 years previously. When it's time to say farewell to the Mach-E First Edition (which I still haven't received despite ordering in in December 2019 !) I shall certainly do so through Motorway.
Regards to all Graham

Anybody emailed Hannah about this 4.9 to 2.9 interest rate change on the finance.
My deal says it's down to Ford what they charge nothing to do with the dealer.
I very much doubt whether Hannah will/can do anything. She is the Mach-E concierge. The finance rate is set by Ford Credit. You will need to speak to them to see where you stand.

Please help me. I'm wavering. Have been looking at the id4 (1st edition), I don't think I want it, but I'm seriously tempted at the moment.

Sorry, only you can make that decision. What I would say is that now I have had mine for 10 days I am glad I stuck with it and didn't pull the plug.

MME RR ER RWD ?
Country flag
Well, some better news to report on this nice sunny Saturday ?

My car managed to escape from Dagenham before they drew up the eCall drawbridge, and arrived at my dealership group yesterday - albeit not the Brighton branch but close enough ....... perhaps they used the "find my garage" function in the car ?

So hopefully once transported down the road (I do hope they know how to do this correctly with the MME ?) they might be able to do the Diamondbrite protection and PDI etc whilst waiting for the eCall fix ?

Hopefully a few more cars may have at least made it to dealers so there's more good news to follow.

Cheers
David

Hi @Iwantonenow

Please, please .... don't give up now.

I was starting to look at other alternatives over the last week or so, but (a) there aren't any I really like, and (b) it's so close now (in my case, literally 20 miutes down the road!).

Hang on in there, as @portlandg said he's glad he stuck with it, and he knows more about this than most ?

Best wishes
David

Of course you and @portlandg are right. It is a beautiful car, but I have no idea when my car will even be here. I believe it has been at the same stage of checks in Antwerp for the last 3 weeks. I can't see early July happening.

Hi @Carl

I think it's £399 - that's both exterior paint protection and internal carpets, seats etc. Plus you get a goodly supply of shampoos, wheel cleaner, ceramic wash, etc.

It's a two day process I gather - day 1 to apply, day 2 to dry!

Hope that helps ?

Hi again @Iwantonenow

It's difficult to remember timings on my car now ?

I think it arrived in Antwerp around the start of April, so it has been a couple of months to arrive at the dealers.

So if that is "typical" (not that anything has been "typical" with this process, other than Ford's complete indifference to their customers ! ) then early July could well be possible, provided Ford don't literally put everything "on hold" for the eCall issue ?

Cheers

Hi David, how many weeks do you reckon your car was in Antwerp? Mine and Lauren’s have been there for just over 6 weeks so far. I know they say 5-10 weeks but I would have thought the upper end is allowing for parts needing to be replaced after faults are found.
I’d also be interested on your opinion of the quality of the Diamondbrite treatment because I’ve ordered that on my Mach E too!
