Just to close Friday, and for information, I received an email from Ford today relating to all my outstanding issues.

The responses from Ford are in brackets (F), some positive, some very positive and some usual BS.

It is a long piece:

1. Ambient Lighting - This was certainly an issue that has affected me and I was disappointed that this is not a feature of my car. Ford's have admitted to this being missold and, as this is not something that can be fitted retrospectively(?) an offer of compensation would be fair?

(F) - Unfortunately the ambient lighting cannot be retrospectively fitted to the RWD specification. It is only available on AWD specification and above.
We’re sorry for the disappointment that this has caused you. We’re awaiting a response from our colleagues on this.

2. Mustang branded key fob - As I understand it Ford are looking into this and customers will receive new fobs when they are available?

(F) - Our security team are working on a solution that will equip the Mustang-branded key fob with the motion-sensing technology that Thatcham stipulate within their standards.
More details will follow via both dealer and customer communications later in the year. The principle priority for us in the near-term remains making sure we’re fulfilling all of the orders for our long-standing customers.

3. Phone As A Key - As (2) above but this might be incorporated into a future OTA?

(F) - This is also being investigated with our security team and we’ll be able to confirm in due course whether the technology can be offered via a future Over-The-Air update.

4. Walk Away Lock - Same as 2 & 3 above?
The walk-away locking feature should be enabled on your vehicle. If you step away from the car with the key fob, you should see that the vehicle locks itself.

(F) - Walk Away Lock will lock all the doors when all of the following are met:
The vehicle is off
All doors are closed and unlocked
A door has been opened and closed without a lock or unlock occurring after all doors have been closed
Key Fob is not inside the vehicle.
Key Fob is not within 1m of the car (from front door handles or the tailgate).

5. Electronic Opening 'Frunk' - This was promised in the manual and I understand could be a future update?

(F) - More information will follow in due course about the exciting content and features that will be incorporated into our Over-The-Air software updates.
For safety reasons, the electronic front trunk opening is not available at launch and requires a manual release via the latch on the passenger side of the car.
We’re expecting several major updates to be deployed over the course of the next 12 months which we’re confident are going to enhance your experience with the car. The electronic release of the front trunk, without the need to use the internal handle, is one of the features we’re expecting to see included.

6. Ford Pass App - Still very 'glitchy' and temperamental, however, I understand this is being worked on for a future update?

(F) - We’ve received similar feedback from other customers and have fed this back to our Connectivity team.
There are regular software updates for the FordPass app delivered via the respective app store and we would encourage you to keep your app regularly up-to-date with the latest version.

7. 'Out of Stock' Accessories - Rubber Floor Mats, Front & Rear, Part No: 2526939 and Load Compartment Reversible Mat, Part No: 2482274. These are still 'Out of Stock'. Could you advise when they will be in stock?

(F) - There is an error on the Ford Accessories website that the team is trying to fix for Mustang Mach-E accessories, where they are showing as sold out.
If you haven’t already, we would recommend that you place an order for these accessories via your Ford Dealer. We’ve reached out to our Accessories team to make sure there is stock available/arriving in our Parts Distribution Centre in Daventry.

8. Hard Copy Owner's Manual - I've requested this previously as, following a screen 'black out' in my car, I feel it is dangerous to not have a hard copy to refer to.

(F) - We are not able to supply a hard copy of the owner’s manual – moving forwards our owner’s manual is principally integrated into the vehicle’s SYNC system.
The manual can also be accessed via your mobile device – both within the FordPass app via the Glove Box section in the Vehicle tab, or via a web browser using the following link.

We have seen some instances of UK customers experiencing their SYNC 4A screen turning black while in use. If this occurs, we recommend – when it is safe to do so – to push the Volume Down and Skip Track buttons on the steering wheel to reset the SYNC 4A system. This should resolve the issue but we would recommend that, in the event you see this occurring regularly on your car, you share the details with your Ford dealer to investigate further.

9. Automatic Tailgate Issue - I can get it to open every time I use it but have only ever got it to close once in all the time I've had the car.

(F) - The Power Liftgate is offered with the Tech Pack that comes as standard on the RWD and AWD Extended Range cars so it should be equipped on your car.
You should be able to open the tailgate via the key fob or by manually pushing the button on the liftgate.
It can also be actioned within the SYNC 4A system via the Vehicle settings, specifically the Access tab. The vehicle does need to be in Park on the gear selector for this to work.
It’s important to ensure there is sufficient space and no obstacles for the liftgate to successfully close automatically.
This is the first instance we’ve seen of a customer experiencing this issue. We would recommend you connect with your dealer if you continue to see issues with this feature so they can review and diagnose any potential fault.
Great bit of info ?
Has anyone actually got the walk away lock to work?
That reply seems to emplie that it should be working.

Have you ordered the boot liner from your dealer? My MME will be along much the same time and I'm going to pay the dealer a vsit very soon to agree trade in and order accessories.
From what I've seen the Ford boot liner is excellent and If I have to wait then so be it- the dog will just have to run behind the car (just joking)
No, I just tried the Ford website, but it says out of stock and incompatible..??

Will speak to the dealer.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Good to have you onboard.

Here is a link to all the Mach E accessories but, as you will see, most are out of stock.

https://shop.ford.co.uk/search?q=Mach e

Advice from Ford is to note the part number of what you want and place an order with your local dealer.

Hope this helps.
Thanks, will give that a go.

Has anybody any feedback on the liner/protector? I can't work out if it has sides or a flap to go over the bumper.

My Evoque one does, and I think I'd like something similar.

There’s two versions of the boot liner. One version is a rubber tray liner with side lips, the other is a carpet topped mat that you can open up when you put the back seats down (it’s effectively folded in half)

With the seats down it provides a full rubberised protective layer and has a fold out neoprene flap that will protect your bumper while loading.

I’ll dig some links out - but I have the carpeted /rubber liner and think it’s great.

Hi @Msb76

As @Mercury8 mentioned, similarly my accessories took over 6 weeks to arrive - and arrived yesterday ?

I ordered both boot liners, as I wasn't sure at the time which I would prefer ?

I think (after a detailed 1 day review!) they are both great ?

As @Wonky_Donkey said, the reversible carpet/rubber mat is great and fully protects the boot and rear seat backs and the bumper when the rear seats are down.

The rubber tray liner (which I am using by default) is also great. It is edged at the back and sides and has lots of small rubber spikes on the underside to stop it slipping on the original carpet - although it fits very tightly so that is not really likely!

Overall both are really good choices depending on your need.

Good luck,
David

Hi all,

Closing the charge-port door ..... or not, as the case may be ?

I posted a couple of weeks ago about this, but after another home-charge and my first ever public charge at BP Pulse the other day, I thought I finally had the knack to close this first time ?

But after a top-up charge last night, it took at least half a dozen times for the charger door to shut this morning. I then built up the courage and tried again just now to test opening and closing (without actually connecting the charger) .... and it took almost 10 attempts ?

I tried to close it with the car open/locked, drivers door open and shut, having pressed the "cable unlock button" (which seemed to work previously) all to no effect.

It seems to have a mind of it's own - or, more worryingly, the car itself is thinking for it and deciding what to do ??

It really does appear (to me at least!) that this is not a simple mechanical open and close lock, which is beginning to cause me some concern as I can see the time when my 2,000 Kg £50K car is rendered unusable due to an open charge-port door ?

Does anyone have any thoughts or can shed any light on this ?

Cheers
David

PS: My Outlander PHEV had a simple, robust charge-port door which clicked open and shut everytime.

Hi David?

Just a possible thought, haven't a clue if it would cause your problem, but have you installed the little 3D printed piece to stop the door opening too far? I'm just wondering whether it also puts more strain on the door at the closing point?

Hi David,

Really good to see you trying to get answers to questions we are all asking, thank you! Just my response...
1. Ambient lighting, when I ordered, I expected to get it on my RWD SR so I feel short-changed.

2. You would think it would also be a top priority for them to sort out proper Mustang fobs, because the more Mach E's are sold with Ford fobs, the more fobs they will have to replace!

3. PAAK is one thing that doesn't bother me, seeing how unreliable it is in the US I wouldn't trust it so would still carry my fob around anyway!

4. They really are clueless aren't they!!! WE DON'T HAVE walk away lock!!!

5. It is exciting the potential of OTA's to improve our cars but nothing exciting has happened with them so far!!! Maybe by 2030?!?!

Just been reading an interesting article about Tesla's 'full self driving' ability (which it isn't by the way)

It does answer one thing though, the eye sensors on the steering column which ER cars have , and why they've been fitted. (am I right that SR cars don't have these) It does rather seem that Ford are a bit more advanced than Tesla wrt to assisted driving.

It's not a long article by any means but very interesting...

Hi @Smuddell

Thanks for that - no, I don't have one of the 3D "door stops" ..... I did look at one but was not really convinced ?

I think you're right to flag this up .... (a) I can't see the current mechanism lasting more than a couple of years, and (b) the door and lock needs to be much more robust and straighforward!

Opening and closing both the frunk and the charge port door (and the vehicle doors and boot) should not require a special "knack" and should work first time in all cases!

Cheers

Hi @davkd if you're getting back to Ford next week could you possibly mention as well about our concerns with the charger door, ie how flimsy it seems, tricky sometimes to open/close, and also lack of any locking mechanism? I drew a blank with Hannah on that one!

Had the car 2 weeks, 1200 miles completed and really like it. Much less so the public charging infrastructure in this country. Lucky fir us 95% of our charging will be completed at home.
However, the trip we just took from Scotland to South Coast England was definitely stressful and the government needs to sort this out else nobody will take EV very seriously. Issues ranging from 1 charger at motorway services, broken chargers, charging at 1/2 speed etc are massively frustrating. Plus public charging is expensive at 30p kw/h. Glad to be home for my 5p kw/h charging running this lovely car at less than 2p/mile.

Hi, Guys

Quick question. What is the maximum KW the MME can take on a DC charger?

Also, has anyone had a problem with the Ford charge card ?

lastly, does anyone recommend a route planner app? I have Zap Map but wondering if it is worth the subscription?

I am going on a road trip with my boys so will be the first time I am putting to the test.

route consists of :

Mon - Preston - Stoke, Monkey Forest
Tues - Leicester, National Space Centre
Wed - Windsor, Legoland
Thus - Dunstable, ZSL Zoo - Preston.
Fri - Preston to Newquay

It’s going to be 1300 miles of cruising. I’m going to be knackered ?

also, after 1550 miles driving my car, I’m quite chuffed not to have seen another MME ☺
That’s quite selfish lol ?.
