I had an "interesting" conversation with a neighbour of mine. He was complaining about a relative who had an electric car but for a long journey south to north the relative used their wife's ICE car to do the journey as he couldn't be bothered to work out a charging route.

The hotel that he stayed at up north hadn't advertised on their website that 3 hotel chargers were available and no-one used them the whole time he was there. The neighbour complained that as there was no one using them there's little demand for electric cars and it's a fad anyway. (Glaring at mine). I said would you have preferred that they were all taken so then you could complain that there's queues of EVs waiting to charge so it's not worth having an electric car?

The sheer force of logic got to him and he stamped off muttering something which I couldn't hear. (He's not a close neighbour, thank God)

Can anyone recommend a good dealer in the Liverpool / Merseyside region? I have the door fault message and also want to get the car looked at as I have never received an OTA update. I have paid a dealer on the other side of the country to update the car with all available updates but I feel this should be fixed by Ford itself.
I use Bristol Street Motors at Wigan. They have been excellent up to now.

If you decide to use them ask for Cora. She is extremely helpful.

I doubt Little Britain will influence things very much and can only follow the world’s main dominant markets now, it will be the global market that dictates the pace of EV production & ownership and the purging of ICE vehicles from the market eventually.
Case in point: According to industry intelligence most markets around the world are at 25% new EV sales or more and at more that 50% EV/HEV/PHEV sales with petrol making the lion’s share of rest with diesel sales making up <10%.

Little Britain and our small minded government with an over blown idea of its/our diminishing importance, punching above its weight already appears to have little influence.

Why would car makers aim for one date around the world and a different one here in Blighty??‍♂

Further, cars may well be getting more expensive due to rules of origin which come in or are already in by now. An unintended, or rather unforeseen or even ignored consequence of going on our own!

Official response from FordEv

”I hope you are well, thank you for your previous email. Sorry that I didn't follow up this case was closed as we were unable to reach you. I'm sadly unable to provide any part number these are only used internally and can only recommend that anyone experiencing issues should contact us for assistance should they need it.

We do not currently have an ETA t this time and continue to chase.”

I wouldn’t mind but i told them I was on holiday for two weeks,

Let us know the new part number whenever they figure that out.

Thanks,

No because I don’t buy service plans, extended warranties etc.

Interesting issue, though.

Manufacturers state, rightly, that brake fluid should be replaced usually after 2yrs due to its hygroscopic nature.

It is an essential service operation for safety.

Higher levels of moisture content absorbed combined with heavy and/or prolonged braking can result in vapourisation the consequent effect of which is “BRAKE FAILURE”

So, the argument goes that this essential item should be part of the service schedule and priced in.

However, for some inexplicable reason no Manufacturer I know does so, because smoke and mirrors making servicing appear cheaper than it is or other reasons??‍♂

We are, after all, dealing with the motor trade.

Therefore, it remains an item included in the list of other unnecessary list of up-sales which can add up to £500 to a service I once found.

Such items as air con disinfectant, ICE engine flushes, fuel and additives and so on are sold to the upsell fatigued, the in initiated and/or the gullible IMO along with the essential brake fluid change buried in that list.

So, the question I ask a dealer is “Does the manufacturer recommend this” to which for most items they have to admit “no” and I tell ‘em to only do what servicing items the maker recommends and nothing else.

Problem is, unless an owner’s qualified to know they may also deny a brake fluid change.

So, in my view as a forensic vehicle examiner, it should be included in the service schedule and be priced in though I doubt you’ll be successful in pursuading what is after all an insurer to accept this cost. I’d be interested to hear their explanation.

Good luck, though???

Here in NA there is just one battery for both the MME and the Lightning:

But there is an aftermarket battery that's sold by a large auto parts chain here called Advance Auto that I will probably buy instead when mine go bad. It's the same size but is a 40AH battery instead of a 35AH. That little bit of extra staying power helps.

I’ve just had my brake fluid replaced as part of the 2 year service, that’s all they did besides the usual vehicle health check and change the cabin/pollen air filter.

Hi All

Been a while since I was on here, mind you been a while since I had my Mache!

In at the dealership for 8 weeks now :(.

had the dreaded contactor issue, now worries I thought I know what it is, called ahead to local dealer who were very helpful told me it would a couple of weeks as their two master EV tech were on holiday. OK fair enough, not great but ok.

Got a call the following seeking saying they had hooked it up and it also needed a 12v battery.

Now follow the ridiculous, there was no part number to order for a 12v battery, the old part number had been removed and no new one but they were chasing ford….

Another week no update still no part number

I raised a case with Ford customer relations, there are on it, few I thought!

6 weeks later and constant chasing, they have a new part number, hooray!

But there is no eta as the old ones were manufactured in the UK and the new ones in Germany…

The saga continues, I will let you know how it turns out!
I'm amazed- having spent a few years managing a fast fit depot (some years ago) Surely there must be a commercial 12v battery that will work. L/A or gel.

In addition to the previous I double checked my paperwork and indeed it calls out the Brake Fluid as not being covered. Personally, I have my 2 year service next month and will decline the work as part of the overall service. With 1-pedal I've barely touched the brakes in two years.
