My 2010 Edge has been a great vehicle, would love it if it were electric.
If there were an Edge BEV with range like the Mach-E, we'd have probably bought that instead. Always preferred a taller vehicle. The Edge is about the perfect size/shape for our tastes.

But I fear with that size/shape, it could struggle to get 220 miles of range (and far less a 70 MPH). I suppose they could put in 150 kWh of battery, but that would be very expensive and take a looooong time to charge on L3.

Very curious to see what battery size and range on the bigger vehicles is gonna be, especially the taller trucks and (real) SUVs. We hear so much about how BEVs have to be super aerodynamic to squeeze every electron out for range, like it's a major struggle. But how can they make an F-150 or Explorer with any decent range then? (Or can they?)
There's a lot of larger applications out there, just look at the Tesla Cybertruck and Semi. I think the battery technology is going to keep improving to help these larger vehicles get more range. I suppose we're going to have to wait and see how it all pans out.

I do expect batteries to improve, but I'm not sure vehicle manufacturers can count on that happening on a timeline that matches planned new vehicle launches. Like the F-150 BEV, for instance. Is Ford expecting newer batteries with (for instance) 20% better energy density by then, and if that doesn't happen, then use the current ones? That's a big fail if betting on the come like that doesn't materialize.

Or... if those batteries are already in existence, why didn't they use them for the Mach-E?

Yeah, good point. :(

Trucks carry weight and battery weight can be factored in. @ 300 wh/kg a 200 kwh pack would weigh 666.67 kg, 1500 lbs, 3/4 ton. Suspension may be heavier. I think you need to give it range for truck buyers at first but a lot just run to the job site. The torque will be beneficial and attitudes may change. It will be good to see the different solutions, Rivian (180 Kwh max), Tesla, Ford.

I'm with you. If an EV Edge was available, I'd buy that over a Mach-E for sure.

We had a 2011 Edge. To me it felt and drove like a really heavy car; I didn't like that about it--it didn't feel very nimble at all. (Which is kind of funny given that the Focus Electric and Bolt are heavy for their sizes..they didn't/don't feel like it, however.)

I think it also was too big for our tastes (yeah says the guy who drove an F-250 and F-350 crew cabs for a while LOL).

I LOVE the size of my Escape. I think it is perfect. I've driven an Edge too, and I feel the same way. It feels "bulky".

Full story, if you're unfamiliar with Rodney Smith, Jr.:

Pretty cool this happened in my hometown. Of course nothing in the local paper. Yet.

Have to edit. Canton Michigan. Not Canton OH. My bad.

I have my eye (google earth-eye) on the Ford plant, and I don't see MME stockpile yet. I will keep and look out! ;)

Yeah we're on our 3rd Escape.
4th for us (two 2001's and currently two 2013's). We're still keeping one after getting the MME, but ideally I'd go a little taller (like the 2001 Escapes were).

Not that we won't love the modestly lower MME, but no vehicle is 100% perfect in every aspect.
