California can’t clean the entire world.
Ummm, the US can’t even clean the entire world. There are countries that pollute at such disastrous levels and will likely never change their policies or regulations. It’s not in their best interest.

A little inconvenience goes a long way to full adoption and a better world. Which is more important?
Honestly for me, convenience is more important. Call me selfish if you want, but it’s up to me to worry about my time and resources. I dont have the energy or capacity to believe that I can help change the world just because of the car I drive. I suspect that while some won’t admit it publicly, it’s the same for the bulk of would-be EV customers. If Ford and other companies don’t work to figure this aspect out, there won’t be a wide adoption of EV ownership. So for now, when I take a long road trip, I’ll either drive our Jeep, or rent a car.

Im buying this car because it’s new, full of cool tech and has some great safety features. Having low emissions isn’t really on my list of priorities. I do respect the opinion of others that rank that high on their list though.

Among other sins such as using the metric system, the Dutch and others use a comma in place of a period when writing out numbers with decimal points.
yeah I know just wasn't thinking about that when I first read it.

My only annoyance is the timing in my personal situation. As an educator I can completely appreciate the craziness that COVID has caused and don’t fault Ford for any delay.

I’m just disappointed that it most likely won’t work out for me. Just the cherry on top of the year...
Home construction? COVID delayed so we have to move into a short term lease the day after Christmas and then move again in a few months.
Last BEV lease up in November? Get a loaner and wait it out only to have the MME pushed back even further until probably February for delivery now (thanks @trutolife27 LOL).
At least have a peaceful holiday season? Mom diagnosed with cancer in her brain on Christmas Eve.

Was hoping something could go right this year but that’s a lot to ask under the circumstances.
The Mache means nothing compared to the health of your mother. Hope and pray all can turn around for her and your family, and everyone dealing with 2020. Stay strong.

I've been driving an electric Focus since 2016. The only annoyance is the range (60 miles max). Fortunately I live close to work so I don't experience much "range rage" and rent a Prius if I want to go on a road trip. It's nice to NEVER worry about the price of gas.
With the MachE... Vegas!!! In my own car. (After lock down, of course.)

Very sorry to hear about your mom. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I would think that Mach-E buyers would be very interested in performance:

REVIEW: The Mustang Mach-E is Ford's most important vehicle in decades — and one of the most exciting electric cars I've ever driven
And this. At $.11 a kw, (my standard rate) my utility would charge me $3.74 for a hundred miles. If I sign up for their EV program, it is even less. You guys can figure how cheap that is with your own ICE mileage.

For my wife's Edge, at 22 mpg in town, and Costco gas at $2.25/gal, doesn't that come out to about $10.23 for 100 miles?

Expand that out to 10,000 miles and $374 compared to $1023 starts getting into real money.:) And that does not include reduced maintenance costs. From a vehicle that can do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds.

Green will not be the selling point to emphasize.

Exactly. And if people really thought about it, they'd realize that's what it's gonna take to really get people to buy them in mass numbers in order to have the impact they want.

Build a truly better product (function, features, convenience, price), and consumers will naturally buy it. Not just because it's green. That might motivate some but not nearly enough for the masses.

Extremely well said. I agree on EVERY point. I live in Cali and the gas prices here are obviously the highest in the nation. Most of that is due to the strict clean air. I have said for years that California cannot clean the entire world. Adoption of electric is truly the ONLY way that there will be an earth for a great great grandchildren to have.

I do not care about all of the tech guys on here saying how it is inconvenient to take long road trips in a BEV so they are going to use ICE. My position is that I agree on that aspect but the reality is that a little inconvenience goes a LONG way to full adoption and a better world. Which is more important?? A little longer drive so that our kids get to have a world that they can live in or do we need to be selfish and thing of ourselves only???

I am looking forward to the road trips just to see what I can do and play with the trip itself. Kind of like a video game. I went this past week to visit my son in the navy and his wife in Seattle. I drove my Explorer form Bakersfield to Seattle non stop. It took 16 hours due to stopping through drive thru only and gas stops. that was it. Now I have a personal basis of the length f the journey and the cost was $450.00 round trip. Both took roughly the same time. When I get my MME I am going to do it again and test all of the above. my average speed was 80 MPH
Couldn't agree more. A few minutes here and there on a vacation are a small price to pay to end the fossil fuel industry. You could not convince me to take an ICE road trip again. Actually, you probably couldn't convince me to *drive* an ICE vehicle again.

Green does not move enough. Sad it is. If that was the gas people that feel like they will only drive a BEV never ice again would never fly again also. Caring for the environment is way down the list of people, sad but true.

Realistically the industry will only shrink some, not be ended. Gasoline is only one major byproduct of fossil fuels. We still need nearly all of the others (plastics, asphalt, jet fuel, chemicals, etc).

Can’t build a BEV without fossil fuel industry, and certainly not enough renewables (who also need fossil fuels to build) to power them.....

Absolutely! To me, treading lightly on the earth and fighting to combat climate change are my big drivers here. I’ll take a little inconvenience on road trips to reduce my carbon footprint when traveling. Around town and short trips a BEV is better than ICE.

Best of all I’ll be getting performance and looks to boot. It also shows others that driving electric is better and cool! ? The Mach E will turn heads and get people to listen in ways that my Leaf won’t.
