  • I found the Mach E seats much more comfortable than the Model Y, and didn't like the seating position of the Model 3
  • Carplay integration
    • I primarliy listen to audiobooks through apps like Libby and Audible, so having the native integration is a much-improved experience
  • I do not agree with Tesla's direction of removing all sensor types except for cameras for parking / adaptive cruise control
    • It is too easy to blind a camera with glare, potentially creating an unsafe scenario at highway speeds
  • Build quality
    • Even when just closing the door, the Mach E feels so much more solid.
  • I like having the driver's display, though sure I would eventually get used to not having it
What do I like about Teslas more (only having driven them for about a day)?
  • Air vents
    • Why does the driver's air vent just blow cold air on the turn stalk?
  • Supercharging network
    • We have a hybrid minivan we can use for longer trips, so this isn't a big deal for me
  • The on-screen display showing your car and other things it senses nearby
    • This is just software, and no reason Ford couldn't do it as well
  • Sentry mode
    • Ford would need to change camera angles to make this work
  • Built-in dash cam
    • Not sure if Ford could turn this on just through software
    • Depends on if there is storage available, and if there is a way to get the imagery to that storage

I’m curious as to everyone’s thoughts on why they chose a Mach-E over a Tesla…

Personally I think Tesla got a lot of things right minus the styling & design. I think they’re bland/boring and everyone and their mother has one.

Why did you buy a Mach-E?
The Tesla is more like a Duckburg Car isn't?

Most people I know buy based on styling and design. They prefer a bland/boring icon to a bland boring car.

Although I previously owned an '89 (four-cylinder, 90 HP baby!), and a '99 Mustang, my main reason for getting the Mach-E was availability. I needed to purchase a vehicle fairly quickly, and the Tesla 3 was something like a 4-6 month wait, and I (luckily) managed to find an en route Mach-E available at a local dealership.

Not sure which I would have purchased if I had a chance to compare them side-by-side and have both available. I like the looks of the Mach-E way more, but the Tesla charging network might have pushed me into a Tesla instead.

Because there are already 15 model Ys in the school pickup lane. All driven by soccer moms.

The Y is the “new minivan.”

Lol exactly right. It’s the new Toyota Camry in the 90’s/2000’s. Super boring/plain Jane and horribly too common.

For me it as the style and scarcity (at the time). But after owning it for two years and only being able to drive it for 1.5 of those two. I am going to go with a model Y. I am glad the default color is not longer white. Can’t drive a white car.

Definitely the styling inside and out was the biggest factor and price was a close second. It was cheaper than the MY when I ordered and took delivery.
I still don't like the design of M3 and MY but would be a tougher decision now with their new prices.

When I was in the market for an EV in '21 I looked at all my options. I initially was not a fan of the Mach-E design, until I read about the rave reviews in the auto trade mags. I had my heart set on an Ioniq 5, but they didn't even have a release date and their order process was terrible (basically nonexistent compared to Ford) The articles piqued my interest so I test drove a Mach-E at a local dealer who let me keep it overnight, we fell in love, I placed an order, was told it was gonna be 6 months wait (ugh).

I was really itching to get something new so we grabbed the kids booster seat and went to the mall in Tampa and test drove a Model Y performance. The salesman was kinda arrogant about the Tesla and how it compared to the MME (told me to watch the Munro videos of course), fair, he wants to sell a Tesla.

But the test drive left us underwhelmed, sure the tech was better, it had plenty of stupid games. But the drive was soulless, it was truly a driving appliance and the lack of IPC in front of you was bad, and everything being controlled onscreen was baffling. Also the lack of CarPlay was a dealbreaker for our Apple household.

After the test drive, we all had dinner at CPK and talked about which one we liked most and the family agreed the Mach-E was the winner. Fast forward a couple weeks later and someone posts on here about a small dealer a couple hours from has one that they turned down and it's been sitting on the lot there for a couple weeks. So I e-mail the dealer and work out a deal to buy the car and they delivered it to my house 2 1/2 hours away. Still kicking almost two years later, still the best car I've ever owned even with its quirks and annoyances.

because Elon isn't a sheep.
what do you mean by this? Seems like he's fine following one side of the aisle right now after he destroyed his credibility with the other side over his hobnobbing with truly vile people and losing billions of dollar on Twitter. He's a capitalism opportunist. But he's gonna learn no matter how hard he tries he's not gonna sell these "lib cars" to his new fan boys.

Coming from a Ford ICE, the Mach-E felt similar and I hated the Y interior when I test drove it. No driver side instrument cluster and the track ball mirror adjustment was a non starter
just curious… how often do you adjust your mirrors?

LOL I wanted a white car or a sapphire blue one. Ford only had lots of greys and Grabber Blue Metallic. I settled for a blue I don’t love. My neighbors live it though. ??

Sheep - docile, compliant. He has his own views. I think he's fairly moderate on many issues but fiscally very conservative. I agree with many things you say, but not selling cars is burying your head in the sand. Tesla sells over half a million cars a year. Tesla has taken over Toyota as California's top auto maker. I know a ton of liberals who continue to buy Tesla's. They are people like me who could care less about a CEOs political beliefs. There's also a lot of conservatives buying EVs, it's just for different reasons.

I didn't say it wasn't selling, just the market he's trying to capture is not willing to buy it. Also, we do have to acknowledge the huge price drops that has allowed them to capture more sales recently. Which is great for EVs. I would consider a Tesla (after all Tesla is way more than Elon now, and I think that has been helpful he's been distracted) if it changed the style some and had CarPlay, it really is annoying not having that for me and my wife, who works for the fruit company.
