I have. Seems an obvious move to me.
It depends on various factors - eg I'm running a hot tub via my garage which is pulling just under 3kw when in use or heating up therefore didn't want that same circuit running the car charge which is also high plus tumble dryer, washing machine etc

So I bought a podpoint which wires straight into the box where the electric comes in before the house circuit.

Then I discovered podpoint is a bad choice as the app doesn't offer the ability to remotely disconnect the charger so someone can just plug in and charge up when i'm on holiday!

I thought you could get a lock for the podpoint, in accessories,to stop people from using it while your away.

OK. I read the write up wrong then. Wouldn't be the first time.
I have to admit that I read it the same way you did. I though you could lock it before you left.
It’s good to know that that doesn’t seem to be the case! I suppose could always switch it off at the fuse box if it’s a concern...

13amp if you use the 3 pin adapter (3mph) or 32amps if you use the commando adapter (21mph). Wall box will do about 28mph. Didn't see the point of spending a few hundred pounds for an extra 7mph of charging.
I am trying to check this BUT I think the Varipower will only give you that speed with a three phase supply. You should check this as otherwise you’ll only get the single phase speed.

so 32amp single phase will still give you the slower rate. I might be wrong... hope I am.

you’re right, I’m wrong. phew!

That's what they told me, I could turn it off at the fuse. Which is inept and pointless as you can open up the fuse box which is outside and flick it back on.

There should be a software lock in the app, there isn't and the app itself is pretty poor in my opinion. It looks like the hardware has had a lot of work put into it but the app is very dated and lacking in functionality.

This is what I received from the product team at Ford.

The UK one is:
  • 230 Volts
  • 10 / 32 Amps
  • 2.3 / 7.4 kW
  • 13A BS 1363 / 32A IEC 60309 (a.k.a 32A blue commando) plug
  • EN 62196 Type 2 vehicle connector
3 phase, which 99% of households don't have is 440V and you have to have a red connector not blue. The Variopower won't take 440v.

Taken from the MME web pages

HOME SOCKET CHARGING
The supplied Ford Universal Charge Cable can also be plugged into a high-power socket, for up to 20 mi of range every hour†. You can also use a normal home socket. Charging is slower, about 8 miles of range per hour, but useful for when you’re away visiting friends without any charging facility.

As with the Ford Connected Wallbox, you’ll need a qualified electrician to install a high-power socket for you.

I think you might be confusing the term "high power socket" and "industrial socket" to mean 3 phase outlets when they are not.

If I am wrong and you are right then I am in the ??

I thought the varipower plug is a regular granny charger? They take ages to charge, but if you have the time then why not? I've personally never used my granny charger as I've never had the need, but I certainly would take it on a long journey in case I couldn't get to a proper charger once at my destination.
Oh and this is my popping, with the ability to wrap the cable round and attach the plug to the wall for safe keeping, but I'm too lazy so it trails on the floor and is propped onto a cardboard box. Looking forward to getting my mach-e as my charging point is right next to the front passenger side so I may even start storing the cable properly!

No you're good... I was confused as we are putting three phase sockets in for charging at one of our work sites...

That's where I see it. Can pay as a optional extra.
Mind you if your away and you get on with the neighbours. I'm sure they will soon realise that's not your car using up the electric. Unless living out in the sticks with nothing but fields for miles.
