I’ve looked through this forum and I didn’t see this addressed. If I missed it please let me know where it is and I’ll go there.

Here’s my question: Since the Tesla charging network is so robust why not use their network with a Tesla tap? Does Tesla make it so that you need to pay with only a Tesla account or card? I assume the Tesla Tap works well but I haven’t heard from anyone except one person on UTube talking about the Tesla Tap. His advice was to buy the higher rated tap (80 amp?). Would the higher rated tap work at ALL Tesla charging stations? How do the Tesla people react to a non-Tesla car using their charger?

Again, if I missed a discussion about this already on the forum please point my to it. I don’t want to have someone repeating everything for me.

With the adapter the MMe can charge on a Tesla AC home charger. As of now (in North America) there is no adapter to allow for DC Fast charging at the super chargers. This is rumored to change in the future.

Just to clarify, the Tesla Tap adapter is ONLY for Tesla wall chargers and *not* Superchargers.

Would the higher rated tap work at ALL Tesla charging stations? How do the Tesla people react to a non-Tesla car using their charger?
The 80A adapter will work at all Tesla wall chargers and ensures you don't blow the adapter since the MME will pull up to 48A if it's available.

The mach e can pull up to 48A at 240V so the 40A Tesla tap would be underrated if the tesla destination charger can deliver over 40A. It will not work with superchargers and rumored v3 destination chargers as they communicate to the car for identifying who to bill and obviously would be able to tell your car isn't a Tesla. Current v1 and v2 destination chargers don't connect to the internet and therefore provide free electricity by the businesses they are installed at.

Based on where the MME charge port is, I don't know if a Supercharger-> CCS adapter is going to be practical.

yes, I should have been more clear. Future super chargers are rumored to be compatible with all EVs, not an adapter is coming for the current super chargers.

THANK YOU! ? I've got a lot of catching up to do. The reason I was asking is that we're planning a trip this fall (October) to Door County Wisconsin and the Ashbrooke Hotel in Egg Harbor and they have 2 Tesla wall chargers and 1 Clipper Creek J-1772 charger and I was wondering if somebody took the Clipper Creek charger if with an adapter I could use one of the Tesla chargers and now I have my answer. When I e-mailed the hotel they told me the Clipper Creek charger is rarely used and I should have no trouble using it for my car. I saw on their logs that the Tesla chargers have been used but not that much.

Well that shoots down using their network on the road then (DC fast chargers). :( I just figured that was the case to keep non Tesla cars out of his network.

The Tesla Tap only works on destination Chargers / wall chargers.

it works fine with Wall Connector 3, for now - but it is possible that those connectors deployed at business in the future could be switched to a Tesla only mode that requires VIN communication and payment. That has not rolled out tho.

we use a wall connector 3 at home to charge our Model 3 and the MME with a Tesla Tap. It’s a handy piece of kit for traveling that effectively unlocks everything but the Supercharger network.

You can use the Level 2 Aka Tesla Destination chargers, with an adapter. If you are in an area that has several Tesla destination chargers that are accessible, the adapter is a good idea.

I think I'd feel some mischievous glee parking my MME in that "Tesla Parking" only spot.

The guy who runs Tesla and loves to fuel rumors on twitter.
Can you post where you saw that? I can't find anything about that and it seems crazy seeing as some tesla stations can't keep up with demand so adding non-teslas would be a pretty bad idea
