if it had what they were going to give you in return for your paying a deposit, that's a contract.

We could get into a discussion about Sue-Happy America but I don't want to distract from the issue of the thread. I really appreciate everyone's input. It makes me feel a little better.
I work at a Ford dealer here in Brentwood, CA. It looks like Future Ford of Roseville has one that arrived 13 days ago in your specifications exactly. 916-677-5325

Their online inventory doesn't show one. I left a message at the number you gave me. Thanks for the help!
Update: Brandon at Future Ford telephoned back and said the Mach-E was sold this past weekend. I kick myself for not including an inventory search with a Zip Code that would have covered his area. Brandon said they have less than 30 new vehicles of all models on their lot when they normally have over 500.

I doubt they would do it with an ordered vehicle like that. The OP put a deposit on an incoming dealer stock car and sounds like they accidentally sold it to someone else.
True, but still quite slimy.

@B25Nut have you contacted Ford yet? I had a terrible experience with my dealership, and contacted Ford by phone and by email and it was taken care. I still keep the check I got from the dealership on my coffee table as a conversation piece. I think I'll get it framed eventually.

I hate dealerships, they are pretty much worthless and can only hurt the reputation of big Ford. Ford can't help fix your problem if they don't know there is one, even if they don't fix your problem you may be able to stop them from doing it to someone else.

We are all hurting for new vehicles, and since the MachE sold out its hard to get any inventory if it wasn't already accounted for.

Did they do this with a reserved order you placed online, or, similar to the OP, you put a deposit on a car that was already coming in?

The other day I posted that Poway Toyota has a used white MME on display. Not sure of the specs.

The OP almost certainly had a verbal contract. I doubt he wrote a check to a Ford Dealer because he wanted to support their softball team. And, the dealer certainly cashed the check. So the OP has a trail, the dealer's already admitted they broke the agreement and there are damages (how much is the question).

Collecting judgements can be a pain, even impossible if the person doesn't have assets, but a car dealer will have assets. Small claims courts also have resources to help you collect. It's probably not something to do if you have a full-time job, unless it's as a lawyer, but for someone with some free-time it might be interesting.
