My Dealer Service Tech has a Ford field engr present as mine was the first to get the update in town.... Ford Engr said it could not OTA because some of the RFA module software has to be loaded thru OBD port, and the physical key fob is needed as they have to turn vehicle off/on several times with fob to preserve PAAK settings and BackupStartCode.
This is good to know. However, what about those of us who had SSM 49730 done? My dealer told me yesterday that the mechanic working on my car said the update to RFA module was done and 21B36 found no update for RFA module at this time. He also checked Oasis for updated information and found RFA module had been updated on May 18, 2021 which was the date they performed SSM 49730 on my car. The dealer told me that SSM 49730 was CSP 21B36. I don't know if he is correct in this or not but they didn't do anything yesterday because the RFA module update had already been done. I am totally confused at this point and don't know who to believe on this and whether additional work needs to be done on 21B36 or not. Can you tell me if the Field Engineer said that CSP 21B36 is the same as SSM 49730? Thanks.

I would just assume he's correct, that yours already has it and to forget about it. It sounds like yours was updated correctly, unlike the few that reported their dealers didn't so it right and bricked the module.

Even if not, an OTA will be out later that does it.

I have no issues, so curious to see what changes. I spoke to the dealer and it is an update that requires the car to be plugged into the computer. I'm dropping it off to the dealer in a week and getting a loaner. It needs to be on the computer for between 4 and 6 hours per the service manager.

I'd just wait for the over the air update later this year in your case.

As many of you know this CSP was released recently. Here is the full info released to dealers. I started a new thread so this info wouldn’t get buried.

My PAAK works 95% of the time, then the other 5% it just doesn’t work at all. I’ve made the appointment so hopefully this solves those issues.

I'm one of those with the lingering question of "i already did the SSM. So I need to do this as well?"

I already had the notification for walk away lock once I did the SSM

Hopefully someone who knows can confirm this, but I suspect that when they do these updates they're not told specifically what software version to install. I'm guessing that whatever the newest version available on the Ford servers that day is that gets installed. Kind of like an app store update. You just get whatever the newest is

So my guess is some of us already had this update via the SSM?

FYI

I just had mine serviced for CSP 21B36 at Koons Ford in East Falls Church, VA and there were no issues. Mine was the first one they have done so I was the guinea pig, but seems they did it correctly for anyone in the area considering a dealer update versus waiting for the OTA later this year.

Too soon to say if PAAK performance has significantly improved. However, CarPlay has been acting a bit funky driving back. I don’t see any reason why this update would affect CarPlay performance though - more likely attributable to the general instability of CarPlay but I’ll report back if it persists.

That's funny in that my Car Play is a lot more stable than Bluetooth connections through Sync 4a. More stable for phone and music playback and the Waz program works better too.

For what it is worth, I was scheduled to do a courtesy rental on a Mach-E (White Premium RWD Extended Battery). I was supposed to pick it up on Tuesday @ 1pm. Showed up and they actually were calling me while in the parking lot telling me they couldn't release the car to me until this update was done. I decided to wait. A couple hours later they let me know they were having issues with it taking and asked if I would come back the next day. I said no problem, they also gave me a cool Mach E hat. Next day the update was done and I got to experience the MME for 48 hours... charging it at home over 110 overnight just to see how that all goes...

Ya, I really don't think it has anything to do with the update. It's probably something related to the fact that my GF's phone was connected and then it switched over to mine. We shall see.

It's disconcerting to me from a security standpoint that all someone needs is your Ford account to get into the car and setup PAAK. Where's the 2FA?
don’t be. Having the Ford account will not let you pair your phone to the car.
you still will need a keyfab to pair your phone to the car.
I found out that the hard way when app got erased off of my phone. I had to set up all up again. The Ford account only gives you 1 part of the requirement. The other is the private key made by your phone and car talking directly to each other.

I can't say why your experience was different than mine, but that was not my experience when I tested this myself. See my post below.

I was not prompted for the FOB to create a new key after deleting the fordpass app and my old key. Pair that with Ford's archaic password requirements and it's a disaster waiting to happen.
