Our Gang is in the recall sweet spot. Our MMEs were made during the defect window but many are yet to be delivered. I agree that the tax delay and depreciation add up to real negative value.
I would like to know a few unknowns-
  • Is every car in the window affected? I have heard both all and some.
  • Who has looked for the problem on affected delivered cars to compare to others? I'd be doing this out of curiosity. Does anyone have pictures? This repair could be done with a longer bolt and a backing plate or may require welding....yikes.

Exactly my concern. At the least stuff has to be removed to get to the seat belt anchoring points.

Thank you for sharing your experience. No matter how many ways I tried to make paying and not taking possession work, I always came up short.

No way around it; we are not getting our cars or the 2021 tax credit in 2021.

The question now is how long will it take to get the seat belt repair? January? February?

Walking away is now something we are pondering. Depreciation, tax plan blown, possibly a smaller rebate, no mileage increase upgrade and unknown potential damage caused by the seat belt repair.
Great analysis - exactly the factors I’m thinking of. I hope *someone* at FMC is realizing the same. This isn’t some minor inconvenience, it’s costing us real money and value.

I know Ford is offering $1k discounts with Ford Option, and $2.5k in certain “EV-friendly” markets. If they can do this just to get people to use their new financing program, they can offer all of us stop-sales a larger discount from MSRP for the significant losses we're taking on our cursed 2021 MMEs.

This might be the end for me. Taking delivery of a 2021 in Feb or March of 22 along with not knowing what is going to happen with our tax rebate AND Ford not doing anything to help ease this situation, I am 90% sure I am not taking this car. We are moving to Northern Ca next year depending on what the BBB thing does I think I will order it there. I have been pretty patient till now, but as someone wrote earlier, I to, think it will be a "significant loss". Who buys a 2021 for full MSRP in 2022?

Just remember people are paying well over MSRP so things are crazy now. I tried to make a '22 of what my '21 is and like $3k more, so who knows the right answer.

Union Pacific Westbound Bay Area Railcar Update.
Yesterday the railcar traveled from Winnemucca NV into California and over the Sierra Nevada mountain range into the Feather River Canyon down into Oroville then down the Valley and arrived at Roseville after Midnight. The current update reports a scheduled Arrival in 'Bahia' CA at 6:20 AM tomorrow. This seems to be Benicia.

I figure the various types of railcars are sorted in the very large Roseville railyard, shown below, for various destinations. Logistics.

Ha, for the life of me, I can never understand the automated trace voice - i.e. what city the flat car has departed from, etc... only can discern the state. Mine's in PA now - moved a few times from Wilmington, DE. Dealership is near Freehold NJ.

No. Not all built in this window are affected. Ours was built 11/18 and somehow escaped recall. Picked it up Sunday.

Wow, that's lucky - mine was build complete on 11/18, but dealer said the vehicle IS part of the recall.

FYI - I just DM’d @Ford on Twitter, asking how they are going to make this right for all 1,600 of us stop-sale folks. And am about to start tweeting at every exec I can find. I spent an hour on the phone with various customer service people and they knew nothing about this issue.

Thank you for sharing.

I just got off the phone with my dealer and they had no information. In fact they did not know that they are not getting info on the seat belt fix until January 3rd.

My Ford account says prepare to make final payment as of 3 days ago. But no one knows where my MME is or the extent the seat belt recall will have on delivery and how invasive the repair will be.

There is no doubt we will get our MMEs sometime in 2022 with unknown consequences from the repair.

My dealer assured me that if I walk away I will get my deposit back because they would love to have one on their lot that they could sell in a heartbeat. Hence, we have no leverage. Take it or leave it.

From my experience, to get the puddle lights on you have to have your keys disconnect. Since the PaaK keeps connected for like 50 feet and stays connected it’s hard to get the puddle lights to turn on. Knowing this, I simply turned off my Bluetooth and walked like 25 feet away with my fob and then came back, they came on. Basically the PaaK is great for some things but is a bit too good at maintaining connection and I think it messes with the intended puddle lights. I’m honestly fine with this. I like being surprised when they do turn on. Makes it more special when it does. And I like being able to open the frunk and remote starting from my bedroom when I’m getting ready. A bit clunky, but kind of how all Bluetooth tech is. I think the tech is pretty good for what it is. One other tip I’ve learned in my short time with the car, turn on the car first thing, as soon as you step into the car, before putting on your seatbelt or anything else. I wish it started up a little quicker or I could skip the animation with a setting, but haven’t noticed any lag after changing the order of doing things when I get in.
Given all new cars come with 2 keyfobs I ended up disabling Paak feature.
