Does whisper mode necessarily mean better mileage? For example, if you consciously drive one of the other modes efficiently, will you end up with the same mi/kwh, or will you always maximize your range on whisper?

You can get the same efficiency from all three nodes. Whisper mode is simply more conducive to maximizing efficiency. If you’re easy off the stops, keep your speed under control and the like in unbridled, you can get quite good efficiency despite the tighter accelerator mapping. On the other hand, if you’re first off the mark with a floored pedal, keeping speed limits as a suggestion for mere mortals and constantly passing traffic with 30 mph faster speeds and you’re using whisper mode, you’ll find your efficiency lacking.

From my understanding, not intentionally. There is the most off throttle regeneration in unbridled, and the least in Whisper. However, due to the blended brake system that Ford uses, you make up the difference in regen when hitting the brake pedal. The modes also alter how the accelerator pedal is mapped so it would likely be easier to accelerate more slowly in Whisper than unbridled so there may be a slight energy usage difference in that regard. But Ford specifically didn't use efficiency oriented labels because they didn't intend there to be a difference between the modes.

I think the real debate is this: is it better to coast or use regen? I think there are arguments for both.

Does whisper mode necessarily mean better mileage? No. What we've heard from Ford is that all drive modes are equal efficient.

The drive modes affects:
1. Accelerator pedal mapping (how far you have to press the pedal, not how much energy is delivered)
2. Steering wheel feel - how hard it is to turn the wheel
3. Amount of regen on accelerator lift off

Whisper is more coasting, Unbridled is high regen, Engage is medium regen. (assuming you're not using 1PD, that's a whole other matter)

I've been experimenting with using Whisper without 1PD on the expressway and Unbridled with 1PD in the city/daily driving.

I hate to say this, but for me, Whisper mode gives me the best economy.

I recently did a test on a standard trip, 30 miles. I used Unbridled, smart Cruise (set on 60) and same interior temp settings (68 and fan 1), 3 people in the car. Plus it was 24 degrees outside and got a whopping 2.2 Mi/kWh. No 1 Pedal. Data from Journeys attached.

I repeated the same trip in Whisper, and it was 10F during the time (I cannot control the weather), all else identical and got 2.5 Mi/kWh.

I refuse to use whisper mode. Every time I’ve been around people who were whispering, they were up to no good. ?
This ^^^

Seriously, I've always found that "ECO" modes in general are something I dislike. When I push on the pedal, I want RESPONSE.

I didn't buy the Mach-E for economy. I bought the Mach-E so when I step on the pedal it goes and gives me a thrill, everytime.

Technically speaking all modes are the same acceleration wise. power is the same, the only thing different is the travel of the accelerator pedal which you control. I believe high regen for a shorter time is slightly more efficient than low regen for a long time but the difference is probably negligible.
if your looking for efficiency I’d say accelerate slow and steady and try not to activate the physical brakes when stopping. Use whichever mode that allows you to do that comfortably.

Personally I use engage mode Because I like the feel of the steering in that mode the best. I don’t feel a difference in regen between unbridled and engage with 1PD so I’m not really inclined to switch modes.

Still can’t get this feature to work, I only see Journeys, but just says no Trip event data for this section, would love to know how much regen I get

Whisper mode is the only mode where the car will coast when you take your foot off the accelerator. (assuming you didn't enable 1-Pedal mode)

That's not a debate, it's basic physics: coasting is more efficient than regen. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
The exception is people that coast toward a stop light and then slam on the brakes at the last second, unable to use any meaningful regen. But that’s just poor driving.

I noticed today while coasting down hill I was gaining range all the way down, but coming back up that same hill range drops off just as fast!

That's not an exception because that's not using regen that's using friction brakes.
