I’m super dense when it comes to this stuff, but my question is how does a software update fix what seems to be a defective part? If they are changing the part on all new vehicles produced wouldn’t that mean the part is the issue?
Depends on what is causing the part to fail. Is it cycles? Those could be software limited. Is it current? Could likewise be limited. Is it voltage spikes? Potential for those to be limited by controlling ramping and switching of various other components.

Vibration or wear? Those most likely require a hardware swap.

I am pretty confident they know what is causing this. They have a new part number and cars after 5/25 are good to go it seems. My speculation is software will reduce load prior to contacts opening and closing as that is a major issue for DC circuits. That MAY be all that is needed for lower power models. High power models, like GT’s, will also need new parts. Fun to speculate as long as you realize (myself included) that until all the fact come out you really do not know.
Then why aren’t very early job 1 cars included?

This just in from Ford:

"To ease speculation from worried Mach-E owners, we are releasing more details about the recall just announced. Every trim of Mach-E that has a flexometer with pilastic coating is affected."

Hope this helps.

My car was built in Dec 2020 (one of the first 240 deliveries in the US in Jan 2021) and as of now it is included in this recall.
Ah, when I checked my VIN the other day, it came up clean. Maybe I need to check it again?

I understand. We could all be quite wrong too. This little bit of information has accomplished the following:
1. Given the Mach-e Forum a big spike in traffic.
2. Given the EV something to bash the car about.
3. Made all the Teslastans happy.
4. Caused undo angst for everyone else. Example: I need to go to the grocery store shortly. My first thought was, I guess I better take the Tacoma. Why? Because the idea there is going to be a safety recall means thus car is potentially hazardous and unreliable. I’m taking the MME.
5. Given us all great opportunities for posting memes.

24k+views in sub 19 hours. That's insane. Ad revenue gods are happy.

Also to your #4 I hesitated posting it because of this but honestly it would have gotten out and someone else would have posted it probably giving more angst and misinformation/speculation. I wanted to try and control that the best way possible to keep people informed the best way possible.

Control and internets is not possible. Irrational thinking, emotional reaction, and unfounded conclusions - now that's the internets.

Happily, I’m clean per both the ford website and the NHTSA website. I can go to the grocery store without worry that my car will blow up in flames like a rear-ended pinto ???

For me nothing will change. It was a known issue, 1% or less failure, will just need a tow if something were to happen, fix will be out shortly. If you think about it then if by some bad chance your car did fail you may get the part first! Actually glad this is happening now and not during the winter. Even though I am mostly in town it is no fun standing around at -20 degrees!
