The only way to lower regen is to put the car in unbridled extend. That disables regen so your brakes are disspating heat instead of the powertrain. Of course you are then wasting all that potential energy instead of recouping it. Turning off one pedal just means you press the brake pedal more to slow the car using the same amount of regen since the brake pedal will only engage the brakes after regen is already maxed out.

However, everything must be in the ideal temperature range for unbridled extend which likely wouldn't be the case after a DC fast charge or hill climb.

ah you’re right, but there’s no chance of unbridled extend unless I stop and chillax for a looooong time, impractical.

So are 100% sure this more robust contactor exists? My car is at the dealer for the windshield, sunroof recall but due to an unfortunate incident it's going to be there a bit longer. Wondering what are the chances the dealer puts in the new part. The software is definitely there to prolong the inevitable.

whats The best way to contact Ford, the normal customer service numbers? I really want this replaced by them and not let it sit there.

the part 110% exists but you cannot get it unless (until?) your underspecd part fails. You’ll be getting a software update only that did not prevent the junction box from frying itself on a long distance drive.

there’s no way to get the new part unless your current part fails. In my experience, go do a road trip with some mountains and DCFC and it will fail.

So basically, seems like the way for us GTPE owners to proceed is get the OTA, and drive like normal (stomping that throttle lol) until we get the warning to service the car which is when we’ll get the new part installed.

yes and don’t turn your car off if you get the warning, go to a dealer. Get an obd-ii scanner to know if you have a contactor problem.

and be vocal about how crappy a way it is to treat customers of ford’s highest trim level Mach E.

I’m a little worried now about convincing a dealer to expedite a repair when the car is still driveable.

Definitely agree on that last part. Bet the refreshed Mach E GT will be great, we got the tester.

The difference between the various powertrain-battery combinations on the car is amazing as well. I have a premium awd er. I live 1/3 of the way up Maunakea. I have a 640 ft climb in 1 mile just to leave the subdivision. Return from town is a 3500 climb in 5 miles. Returning from Kona has me climb sections of road with 10% slopes and descending them on the way there. Yet my car is β€œok.” As far as I know anyway. This is far more critical on the GTs.

It is going to be interesting to see the next few failures and see if they correlate with the GT trim and if similar coincidence DCFC, hills and WOT are present. If so then that will at least give us all some factors to consider especially when traveling far from home
