274 Miles 100% Charge - 303 Should Be!

Thank you for comments. I have a 303 mile capacity extended range RWD 2022 Mach E Premium that just charges to 274 at home before stopping the charge. Am I missing some nuance here about a full charge not going to 303 miles?

Nothing to worry about.

The range shown in the dashboard is an estimate that will update over the course of driving. It will recalculate as you drive according to changes in weather, traffic conditions, wind, elevation changes, and driving habits, etc.

If you drive moderately in relatively pleasant weather (i.e., not needing a lot of heating or a/c) it will probably go up. If you have the heat or cooling cranked and do lots of hard acceleration or sustained high speed driving, it will probably go down.

The EPA rating on Ford's web site and the window sticker are an estimate. Just about everyone will come in either above or below it.

If your talking about freeway range an EV will never hit the EPA range. Unless you drive at 45 mph with minimal throttle input. Another example is the model Y long range has a 316 mile advertised range and it only goes 276 on a full charge.

You are missing a few things.

First and foremost, the range indicator is not a gas gauge, it’s a guess, and a rather conservative one at that. It estimates the range based upon past driving habits, grade ofthe roads you drive home on, outside air temperature and probably more. Around here it’s usually called the GOM or Guess-O-Meter.

Your actual range can best be estimated by looking at your average miles/kWh and multiplying that by the remaining charge in kWh. I have averaged 3.5 miles/kWh over tte last 17 months. That gives me a range of about 310 miles on my 2021 awd er. Just keep in mind that temperature, speed, wind, and gradient can change those numbers radically.

I'm going to start smashing my head into a wall if people who buy EVs can't do minor research. This is the biggest problem with the EV push IMO. No one is educated. How many million threads on this do we have now
