My opinion is get the options and color you want. You'll have the immediate satisfaction of getting a car sooner, but if your heart is set on the blue, every time you see a picture of one you'll feel a little let down. And the first time you see one in person...yikes.

Is it too late to get an AWD EXT Premium in the blue you like, or is that not in the budget/time frame?

On the flip side, the '22 seems like a great deal, and maybe you'll get used to the color?

I find it very strange dealer is offering new 22 model with out any mark up. People waited for a year for this. You are lucky.

I would say get it, claim the tax credit, once your next car arrives trade this and claim tax credit again.

This plan on paper appears to be full proof, but think in real world and let us know what you did

Exactly. Why would a dealer throw out money... My dealer just sold the 21 premium I traded in 3 weeks ago. RWD SR, traded in $51k, dealer asked almost $60k. 13k Miles with cracked windshield.

I guess I should clarify that I meant the "free upgrade" would be from my standard range battery and rear wheel drive order to the AWD extended battery, so it's technically an upgrade for me. They're asking $330 less than my '23 order, so it really works in my favor even though I'm not in love with the new color. I'm well aware of how crazy the market is and how easily it can change. I think we're probably just going to cancel the order for the '23 at this point.

As for the Tesla example, my husband already has a '21 Model 3 Long Range and has been offered a good chunk over what he paid when he ordered it back in 2021. We thought about upgrading his to the performance one, but it's just not worth it and he might lose his FSD beta status. Though he IS eyeing the EV6 GT. *groan*
Regarding color: Space white is entirely different in person and varies greatly based on sun/cloud cover. It can look slightly matte gray, very light blue, or even pick up oranges and pinks when the sun sets. Everyone that has chatted with us about the Mach E comments on the fantastic color and wants to know what it is. Be prepared for convos about it ?.

Edited original post to correct my miscalculation. I mistakenly thought I was comparing both after tax to get the $330 difference, but looking closer it's more like $2k after taxes for apples to apples. Still about $9k cheaper than doing the same config on the 2023. I'd rather not make that price jump since it'll only be an around town vehicle for me. I'm still getting X-plan and will qualify for the federal tax credit.

As for the color change, I'll be honest. As much as I love the blue, I'm terrified someone would try to vandalize it or steal it and it has been causing me anxiety since I put in the order. Maybe this is the universe's way of easing those ridiculous worries? If they had offered me a red one, I would have passed since I'm not a fan of red at all. Space white was in my top 3 for colors.

To address the no ADM comments... I'm in a small town with 3 very large employers nearby (Coca-cola, Delta, and Chick-Fil-A) that generate what I'm guessing is the majority of their sales/clients. Word travels very fast in this situation. I asked the sales guy why they weren't trying to just put it on the lot with a mark up. His response, "After getting out of the military, I've been doing this for 29 years now. I've learned that you can shear a sheep multiple times, but you can only slaughter them once." Not all dealerships are total crap bags, just 99% of them. ? But seriously, I did a lot of research and talked to people who bought from them about their experience. It was the sales guy's idea to take this one and trade it back into them after the 23 arrives and/or private sell. I think we're just going to cancel the 23 since it hasn't been scheduled yet and be happy to have a MME, there are too many unknowns with the tax credit being in limbo for 2023 tax year.

Thank you again to everyone for your thoughts and help!

Finally, a dealer that gets it. This was my first Ford, likely to be my last, and I chock that up to my bad dealership experience.

The issue is that the dealerships, although they are independent businesses, for better or worse, represent the brand. Folks such as myself can separate them logically, but not emotionally. I've had a decent experience with my local dealership, but the dealership I bought my MME from is forever dead to me.

I saw an F-150 at another dealership today in the space white and I'll admit that I liked it more than I thought I would. I know it's a different vehicle, but I needed to see it in person on *something*. This other dealership also had a few used MMEs that they were asking ridiculous amounts for ($64k+ for a '21 premium, no warranty) and the guy actually said outright that it was cheaper to just wait for a new one. One of the used ones was the star white metallic and when I saw that one my heart sank until I double-checked that it wasn't the same color.

I saw 3 grabber blues on the road while I was out today and I wasn't as sad as I thought I would be. I'm excited for the upgrade I couldn't justify at the '23 price point!

Ford MMe premium order. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Lrd

Another data point: I ordered a MME in Dec 2021. When the build date kept drifting off farther into the future, I got on the "waitlist" at several dealers for EV makes that suited me (MME, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6). All would add markup and couldn't say when they might have an available car. The first and best offer I got was for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 which I like very much and intend to keep. I used my trade-in "markup" to offset the Hyundai markup. Meanwhile, the months have passed on my MME order, which supposedly has been built a few days ago and may be shipped soon. At the moment, I expect Ford/dealer to honor the price protection and no-ADM promises and to take delivery on the 2022 MME before the Fed tax credit rules change. I prefer the Hi5 and don't want two EV, so I may gift the MME to a loved one if I decide to buy it. 2023MY MME has lost much appeal with price increase and diminished Fed tax credit.

That is an unbelievable deal considering how much homework folks have done to try to pay MSRP let alone X-Plan!

Congrats to you, super lucky! (minus the color part)

When I ordered my ‘21 Premium AWD ER in Infinite Blue I heard the rumor that the color was being discontinued. Space White Metallic was my backup color choice. It really is a beautiful color.

BTW, I’m glad I have the ‘21 rather then ‘22 or ‘23. I have the foot power assist liftgate, backup assist, and didn’t pay the $600 in MSRP for BlueCruise. Win..win..win. X-plan price of $55,600 plus got a $2500 Options rebate.

I'd be glad to step in as a loved one! You can adopt me! ?

But seriously, I'm sorry to hear about your journey. I've seen several of your posts about it and have seen your excitement wane. It really sucks when everything is out of your control. I was fully prepared to wait for the 23 some time next year since I hardly ever drive anywhere and we already have the Tesla/BMW, but I guess karma owed me one for a good deed I did somewhere along the line. Don't tell anyone... I have a reputation to keep. Haha.

Hopefully it isn't cursed since I'm the 3rd person that was going to take it. Original person dropped out due to "life changes" and the 2nd person who had also ordered a '22 didn't want to wait and found one elsewhere. They came to me since I was the first '23 order.

I did tons of homework, too. They actually wrote up my '23 order with X-plan and Ford accepted it. I didn't correct them since the manager signed off on the purchase agreement. Figured I'd try to play the "it's a legal contract" type card or something to make them give it to me even though it's only $840. The first time I spoke to them on the phone, they said they did X-plan and then I got it in an email, and then in the official purchase agreement. In my mind they had 3 chances plus the time since I put in the order to try to tell me they couldn't do it. At least this way as long as the '22 delivers before 12/31, I'll get X-plan AND the federal tax credit. Georgia hates EV drivers and penalizes us greatly. My BMW X1 registration/plate renewal is $20/year. Our Tesla Model 3 is almost $300/year! I had the BMW i3 +Rex before the X1 and was able to get the cheaper registration through a loophole since it had the 2.5 gallon gas tank for the generator. Ridiculous!

I asked them again today what they would have done if I didn't snap up the '22 and their answer was, "We'd just put it on the lot for MSRP. We don't do mark-ups." ? I think I found a unicorn!!

This settles it I'm driving to Georgia to buy next time ?

In cali the Mach was around $800/yr reg I think, a few hundred more than an ICE vehicle. Supposedly it is due to EV's using all the same road infrastructure that is funded by gas taxes, but EV's don't pay into it.

EDIT: Just looked it up, the EV reg "penalty" here is $175

That's exactly why Georgia does it, but what doesn't make sense in either of our situations is that if you add up how much gas tax you'd pay driving a similar ICE vehicle it's not even close to the fee!! We have no problem paying for what we use, but this is just a money grab.

Edit: At least with the $300-ish fee we get to use most of the HOV and express lanes without being charged. It's great, except there are none of them down where I am and we hardly ever go up into Atlanta proper where they are unless we drive up to NC. *eye roll*

Come on down... err over! I'd love to come back to Cali. I lived in Livermore for quite a few years and miss it terribly except for how expensive everything was.

Ha! Well you'd get your HOV money's worth if you come back to Livermore - there are now 2 HOV/Toll lanes each direction on 580! Livermore has some of my favorite alternate routes on 84 and Vasco road to get around rush hour
