Ford Mustang Mach-E But mine is a extended range. 277 miles IMG_0080

This is 270 miles at 100% (which is dead-bang EPA for me). It’s 48º here in Northern VA as I type this, but almost all of my trips are running the kids back and forth from school, so my efficiency is pretty high since I’m rarely going over 35 mph these days. Even if I do have to go to the office on the odd day, it’s not above 55-60.

I find that I worry about range infinitely more than it’s ever been an actual problem.

I think telling people to NOT trust the GOM is actually a bad plan. Clearly they don’t understand how the cold affects range and now you are telling someone to ignore the fact their car has less range than they personally expect.—A good suggestion is look at your efficiency in miles per kWh and multiply it times 91 or whatever and that’s your range. By all means don’t tell people to ignore the GOM when it’s cold out.
Agree - The GOM is your friend.

I’ve done a 180 on my attitude about the GOM. I no longer think Ford trying to give a real range estimate l, albeit a conservative one, was a good idea. The GOM estimates have caused so much consternation test I think Tesla had it right, just put the range at 100% as the official EPA estimate and leave it at that. Far fewer complaints up front. ?‍♂
sooo telling people accurate information is a mistake?...

A lot of folks working in dealerships are clueless when it comes to EVs.
I agree. When I first test drove the Mach-E last year, all the dealership had were Select models and the dealer tried to convince me that I didn't need an extended range battery – that 211 would be enough (even though we live in Rhode Island and it would be our only car). Thankfully I had done enough research to realize the extra mileage would be valuable when you get down into the mid-100s in dead of winter.

200 miles at 100% on an ER? You driving like a bat out of hell up the sides of volcanoes in Hawaii, my good dude? :)
The average road slope on both approaches to the subdivision is over 6%, a fringe "benefit" of living about 1/3 of the way up Maunakea. Leaving the subdivision has a 600-foot climb in just under a mile and heading to Kona has a 1600-foot climb in about 3 miles. Plus we're in cool weather here now. The overnight low was 51 F last night. We'll probably not hit a high of 70 again until late March. By Thanksgiving, we'll be into the mid-40s for lows and mid to upper 50s for highs. Christmas will see things into the very low 40s overnight with occasional jaunts into the mid-30s. Upcountry living. It's like being in the SFO Bay Area in the winter.

All of which helps explain why people shouldn't rely on GOM readings. My average miles per kWh is actually 3.5. But the GOM heavily weighs recent activity and current temperatures.

I have a premium RWD with the extended range battery, live in Southern California. After an upgrade on the Guess oh Meter (GOM) I now see over 300 miles.

That is likely because your driving history was reset. Once you have some driving history, it should be back where it was before. Assuming you are driving the same way as before, if course.

fuck me - are we going to do this every year? Are people really this dense? Do they actually spend this much money and do no research on the product?

I am aware I am sounding like a grumpy old man. At this point, i don't care.

In Palm Springs area, my GuessOMeter has hovered around 250-260 miles at 90% charge during 100+ degree days. Recently, with temps starting to dip into the low 90’s, the numbers are edging up into the low 270’s.

I guess we will have to continue to RE-explain GuessOMeter numbers every week until owners start to understand the technology.
Or just keep giving them the link to the thread that already does so:

Winter,
Ben Franklin used to figure out the weather in his city by looking at weather forecasts in surrounding cities and then extrapolating. I can tell the weather in different cities by these GOM posts
Yup. He would hang out at the telegraph office..

I rebuke myself.

So true! The dedicated Delivery person at my dealership tried to tell me that BlueCruise was not yet available in Canada and that they had no idea when it would be! Due to this forum, I provided her with a ton of education about the car she was supposed to be teaching me about. And I sent her the link to the forum.
