Interesting.
The part about hoping other manufacturers add NACS to their equipment sorta seems like the opposite of what everyone was expecting would happen.

But, armed with this spec, someone could build a Supercharger -> CCS adapter dongle? And maybe some software changes on each supercharger and those units would be able to charge any vehicle without a cable hardware change on the supercharger itself?

Seems promising, thanks for posting.

Tesla is seeing the writing on the wall as CCS cars start to take over.

They should have opened the standard 5 years ago, but greedy Elon wanted to license it for fees. Guess he finally came around now that CCS will be built out as the national standard.

No, the documents posted are the physical standard only (the hardware). The software communication and authorization for Supercharging remain proprietary for the Tesla connector. Tesla will not allow a supercharger>CCS dongle on its network for safety reasons. The dongle would not be able to get past the VIN-based encryption Tesla uses.

Agreed. After looking at the docs, there is no software spec included.

What's the point of having others adopt the physical standard for the Tesla port, if it won't be interoperable with existing Tesla superchargers?

I was more expecting that Tesla would sell the adapter along with a subscription to access their network. A little intelligence built into the adapter and it could be a virtual "car" with an attached Tesla account.

Tesla could easily do this. They could even make the adapters and sell the electricity at different rates for non-tesla cars.

They choose not to. Instead, they want other car companies to adopt their connector... not make an adapter.

This has been asked before, and it makes more sense to add the cables to the Superchargers from a resource efficiency standpoint. If you make an adapter, only 1 person can use it. If you add a CCS cable, hundreds of people can use it. So I'd rather see Tesla put their resources into adding cables than offering adapters. Maybe they will have one someday, but right now it would only benefit a select few people that could get their hands on one. Tesla has to add the cables to comply with federal standards as well if they want the infrastructure money.

uhhh no. Just the opposite. Tesla is trying to establish their connection as an alternate standard to CCS.
Oh absolutely - they've seen the lack of standardization here in the US and are trying to flip the market to their side. Interesting choice from a manufacturing perspective as well, since standardizing on CCS would simplify their differences between US market and EU market vehicles. Maybe they're going to push NACS into EU vehicles and offer a (standard?) adapter with the vehicle, but someone with more experience in the EU regulations would have to comment on that.

Just the other day, i saw two elon musk cultists occupying a CCS charger using their converters and told them it is not for them and to go to their supercharger.

LOL, I love how they call it the "North American Charging Standard". It's kind of how Internet Explorer set the "standards" back in the day because its browser had the largest marketshare. (Don't @ me; I'm a huge MSFT fanboy but even I have to concede that isn't how things should be done)

What a bunch of bull. Elon can suck it.

I think this is a little too late.. Should have been done before others jumped into the EV market. I agree that it's a much better design, but this pushes the design changes onto his competitors, why would they?
