I will try re-formatting and redownloading the data and see what happens.
I dont want to speak too soon, but it seems trying a third flash drive worked, a 16GB Kingston, 3.0 worked, my SanDisk and PNY failed. As an IT person, I am baffled lol

HI Mike,

I was curious to see if my car had attempted recently to update, so I went to the dealer to ask them to check the OTA Dashboard. This always gives me the same response from them as they look at me with a deer in headlights expression asking to repeat what I want. Eventually I get to the screen I want even though I don't work there. They told me that an APIM update tried and did a "Final Attempt" to install. I assume this is the newest Sync update, but was surprised as you told me that I only had a PSCM and GWM needing updating. Not sure if you can see anything on your end, so I got an appointment to in on Monday.

And yet you have another GWM, and the new HVAC everybody got this week.

Well it's good that things are moving along for you ?
I wonder if the GWM is 4.2.3? That would match the 4.1.1, 4.1.2, 4.1.3 procession.

Hi Mike, you had run my VIN for possible updates back in Jan, but I think I may have given you the wrong VIN! Would you be kind enough to run it again for me:

VIN: 3FMTK3SU4NMA55415

That said, I have a bigger issue with the dealer service Dept's in my area. The dealer I bought the car from is small, backwards and clueless. There are two other "mega-dealers" in my area, South Jersey/Philly, Holman Ford and Winner Ford have huge service departments. So I thought I'd try them for these updates. Both have told me the same thing: "These module updates can be problematic, they can take forever, you should plan on leaving the car for at least 2-3 days." I tell them, well, my research tells me it shouldn't take more than 10-15 mins. per module. And they're like, that's BS. Honestly, it makes me nervous to take my car in for the updates. I mean, my car is running perfectly fine without them, I have no issues at the moment. What would you advise? Thanks so much, Mike and any other posters/commenters to this post.

Here's the list of available updates and it looks like the APIM update to Sync 713 is in there:

I've seen this before and it still makes me shake my head when I see one or two door modules in the list when there were four originally, and the tech just couldn't be bothered to do all of them. They literally take one minute apiece to update. That's just laziness. And arrogance. There have been many comments from members on this forum who have shown screengrabs to their techs or service advisors...who were completely stunned that their customers could see what they had and hadn't done in great detail. It does tend to change the tone of the conversation.

If everything is working fine I'd just wait until the next scheduled service and go in with a list at that time and tell them you expect it all to be done when you pick the car up.

Set your software update schedule to check when you know you'll be out and about during your morning commute in an area of good AT&T coverage and with any luck you'll pick up OTAs along your way.

You have the Sync 640 with the new UI...you have a new GWM in your list as well as the PSCM discussed in this thread earlier, and the HVAC we all got this week.

That APIM that was trying to come OTA was likely OTA 4.2.2/Sync 713 (since you already have 640).

As a note...I found yet another GWM update in my list this morning and I already had the one that was OTA 4.2.1 ("-LKA" revision). I'm assuming I'm getting this new GWM because I recently got OTA 4.2.2 (Sync 713). They always seem to leap-frog each other. I'm wondering if a TCU will be next for me?

Mike G, thanks for your previous help. I bought the first edition Mach E you had checked for me. It's been at the dealer for a few days getting updates, so I was wondering if you could check to see where we are at now? VIN is 3FMTK3SU5MMA20879 thanks again
I tend to get lost sometimes when I jump back into this thread...I know I responded to you but was checking other VINs this morning and checked yours again.

As a result of the dealer tech doing the Module Update Repair procedure (and updating your TCU) it looks like OTAs should start working for you again...and it looks like you should be getting the new Sync UI update (Sync 640) sometime soon cause it's in your list, along with the newer HVAC we all have in our lists now.

Thank you Mike, any idea on how long it will take before the car recognizes the USB drive and start the update?
According to this...5 minutes roughly...?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for this. I’m definitely getting OTA updates, got 4.2.1 just yesterday. Do you think I’ll get some of these module updates you’re showing via OTA’s? And why the heck do all these dealers keep telling me they’ll need the car 2-3 days to do them?

You should allegedly get some via OTA. However, it is a very slow and painful process to be put in an update queue and wait till the right conditions are met for them to go through.

The reason they ask for 2-3 days is that a tech most likely wont sit in front of car the whole time to do them. I spent about 7 hours yesterday trying to update my APIM and ran into some issues, mind you I am not a professional.

Also, most don't realize that even in FDRS, the updates do not show up right away consecutively. You might have to do a GWM update and wait a week or two in my case for a new APIM update to show up.

Hello, had the dreaded HVBJB problem back in November. Replaced by dealer with no issues. I Have not received an update since (ford app says last update was 11/7 3.6.1). If anyone can check on my VIN I'd appreciate it - 3FMTK3SUXNMA11502

Well scheduling in a shop is not the same as me taking my laptop out to the car and plugging in whenever I want. They may only have one certified tech. And he may only work certain days.

CAN bus updates need to be watched so that you know when to hit the "OK" button or turn the ignition on or off, in order to do the next thing in sequence. They don't like being tied to the VCM to watch it all the time, and even Ford says they aren't getting paid to sit on the VCM while it's doing it's thing programming updates. So for a lot of shops the juice isn't worth the squeeze.
