Lets try to bring this thread back on-topic. What do you all think that our new 1/4 mile and trap speeds will be after the 5 second limited is changed?

Currently the Ford Lightning traps faster in the 1/4 than the MME

Ford MME GTPE Quarter Mile12.6 sec @ 100.6 mph

Ford Lightning Quarter Mile12.9 sec @ 103.8 mph

Yikes! ?

Ok, that’s what I thought.

Multiple people (not you) have referenced the frunk thing as a Palmer lie and it really wasn’t him. Just wanted to clarify that fact.

As far as I know, Palmer has delivered whenever he said he would do something, which is good news for those of us waiting patiently for more power!
Keep in mind that Tweets are routinely deleted by their authors. You won’t, for example, find any of Jim Farley’s or Emma Bergg’s Frunk tweets. As for Mr. Palmer and the frunk, his comments were made in a recorded Sema 2020 broadcast in November 2020. It’s available on YouTube somewhere. I have no idea if he ever tweeted about it.

The thing to be careful about is seizing on sound bites as proof of a promise. Mr Palmer didn’t exactly say the Frunk opening was coming via OTA. His comment on the 5-second garroting of the GT also doesn’t exactly say they’re going to fix or improve it on existing cars either. The implication is clear though.

I think I would prefer a button boost rather than a surge when it’s ready. Would feel more track focused like E-Boost in F1 with the button, or NOS.
it's all about cooling in an EV.
... or NOS ;)

pretty dumb to run boost past temp limits and damage the goods.

problems with the Mach-e are:
- we don't have sensors in all the right places to show temps in all sensitive areas
- we don't have (factory) display of temp sensors at all
- power reduction algo is set by time and kW rather than actual temps
- thus, even if we enhance cooling system, algo would still clamp power based on time

I think its not super smart to change a calculated limit without also adding physical sensor and display to SEE when and if you need to back off the boost.

Maybe they're running a crap ton of tests now under a wide variety of conditions to see when we can have a 5 second limit vs a 10 second limit?

Actual data and feedback loop it would be a real crap shoot to adjust the time and risk warranty.

One alternative would be to say something like sure I'll give you 10 seconds at full power, and cancel your warranty

I don't share your pessimism. We'll see what happens hopefully soon enough

Not sure what he said in 2020, but he DOES exactly say they’re going to improve it on existing cars via OTA.

He was asked a direct question and answered it directly. Not a hint, not a guess, not an implication. A very clear and direct response “we are going to improve that limit.”

And he wasn’t hinting at future improvements on future models.
He said “via OTA.” That’s for existing cars.

do we know how the contactors have changed since the original design? While we’ve seen @heisnuts 4X destroy HVBJBs I don’t recall seeing any post -revision GTs killing their junction boxes.
Internally different, might be a different coating or material on the contacts that resists heat better such as Inconel.
My 2023 did, HVBJB had to be replaced.

I thing you guys missed the most important clue on when this will be released. He clearly said that Ford wanted to make sure that the components will last 8 years with the new increase in power. So I'm going to guess that's when they'll release the power upgrade, in 2030.

He said they can (as in are capable of) make the change via OTA. He did not say they would. He then said there will be a change but he did not say to existing GTs. His answer was informative but also careful.

While I certainly hope they do what’s right and make a significant change in the 5-second throttling, given his very similar answer in 2020 to a direct question, I’m not convinced. Hopefully, I’m wrong.

This.
I hope they do it, and I'm willing to believe they will, eventually.
I am not holding my breath, I am not pre-booking time at the drag strip, and I'm not auditioning for an episode of Pinks.

Yeah, I think it’s likely there will be a change. In the case of the job 1 frunk challenged cars, there are in the vicinity of 10,000 affected vehicles. In the case of the GT throttling, it’s every single GT ever built. What I’m not convinced about is that current vehicles will get the change before those rolling off the assembly line on (insert arbitrary date). I think it’s likely you’ll see changes in new cars first and quiet about existing cars until they get a round toit. Unless they can monetize it.

I would be upset if the new cars get a change to the 5 second limit and Ford tries to monetize it for existing cars. We were sold the GT or the GT-Performance Edition on the basis of performance. It would suck to have to pay again for performance that was implied in those track videos. ?‍♂?
