From my current research, there are wired chargers and chargers that connect to a NEMA 14 - 50 outlet.
Curious, what is your recommendation for a charger that connects to a NEMA (not wired)?
Hard to tell, but it seems quite a few say the Ford Mobile Charger isn’t reliable. Hence, my question as to recommendations…

Search the YouTube channel "State of Charge", and he has a great video comparing the different options.

There are several threads on this site about charger recommendations, but some of them might be a couple of years old at this point.

Whichever one you choose, make sure that it has a safety certification from UL, CSA, or another Nationally-Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). ??

I love my ChargePoint Home Flex.

As mentioned before State of Charge has lots of charger reviews:

-make sure you got one of the industrial 14-50 outlets installed.
-Grizzle e is good, mine started failing after 9 months, but United Chargers warranty process was A+. Literally sent them a video and the next day a replacement was fed exed.

My garage already had a 14-50R installed by previous owner for hi kid’s Tesla. Made it an easy decision to go with a plug in charger. I went with the Juicebox because my utility gives me money for it if I let them throttle my charging during peak hours. Think about where to want the charger mounted in case you get a 2nd EV in the future.

Some, like my ChargePoint, can be hardwired or plug in. I went with plug in as I felt I could use my Ford mobile as a back up if it ever failed.

As others have replied I can also recomend the State of Charge videos. Living in Delaware we are suseptible to cold and snowy winters and Tom does excellent reviews covering how chargers work in cold weather and how flexible the cables are even in cold weather.
At the time I purchased my Grizzl-E it was highly recommended so that is what I went with and It has been used to charge two EV's for almost two years.

Basically the best recomendation is to do your research, there are several newer companies producing excellent products sp pick one that suits your needs

Many EVSEs have the ability to be hardwired. I opted for an OpenEVSE unit though that's not to say they are the best or the only option. I simply selected them because I was able to assemble it myself as a learning opportunity to understand what went into an EVSE. It's surprisingly simple, and knowing what went into it allows me to better understand if there's a failure what went wrong, and rely upon a community to understand what a potential solution is that could be parted out piece by piece instead of replacing a whole unit.

To date, the only issue I had was a scenario where a ground fault was detected in the internal unit which ended up being resolved by a change in firmware settings and has been perfect since.

It's operated in the hottest of conditions, I could easily swap out the 14-50 cable and hardwire it if I so chose to, adjust the amperage, and when the internal relay wears out, I can replace it easily.

Tesla has come out with a universal charger that will charge both CCS and NACS vehicles, but they will not start shipping until October. With the NACS change happening in the near future, this might be the one to go with for $595. The link is HERE

Basically a NACS unit with an J1772 adapter. I think Tesla calling it “Universal” is a bit sneaky. If you already have a TeslaTap, just buy the currently available Wall Connector.
