Do you have a transponder in your car (PeachPass/SunPass)?

I only discovered this because fastrak in Cali wasn't charging my account for bridge crossings(I mounted below the mirror not to side woops). And they still haven't even though they have my correct address and license plate on the account. Now, to move the transponder to the correct spot or not to........
I ordered another transponder, earlier today.
Honestly, not looking forward to removing the current one on my windshield...

I put my FasTrak on the dashboard when I'm using it and in the glove compartment when not. (Anything visible in California is a candidate for broken window theft.) This unit is twelve years old and has never failed to register. Perhaps newer versions are less sensitive.

That's why I harp, to most people's dismay, that new owners should read the manual. Lots of learning in it. Dozens, if not hundreds of people have posted here and elsewhere that they can't get transponders to work. As you discovered, it's explained in the manual.

Massachusetts sends new free sticky pads to customers of their transponder.
Agreed here, plus the transponders have material with information on it as well but it's pretty general.

I have a Minnesota EZPass, and it's actually just below the dotted area, but is reading just fine on the gantries. I do have to put my garage remote in the dotted area to work though. It's a weird apartment remote so homelink is not an option. :-/

I bought a cover and suction cup holder for my iPass (Illinois). State provides velcro strips that I didn't want to affix directly on the windshield, and I wanted to cover the white eyesore... I thought I might take it down when I'm not on tolls (since I typically don't drive on them), but with the cover on it, I forget it's there.

I just went to the car to look at it. So, in short, I need to place the transponder to the left or right of the rearview mirror, in the dotted area, no?

I might just contact PeachPass, to send me a new transponder, too.

Thanks for the help.
Yes in the dotted area next to the mirror

Not for the same pass, but I got an Ohio (shudder) transponder for the Ohio turnpike that has an EA station we use for our Indy trips, and having it in the black dotted area others noted has resulted in it being read every time we have done the trip. So hopefully it's some reassurance that it should correct your issue assuming the actual system itself isn't just really weak.
You can buy an EZPass from any EZPass state. Ohio has monthly fees. Massachusetts is generally regarded as the cheapest option (no fees, free transponder). Only reason to buy somewhere specific is if there is a special local rate, which I've never encountered in my driving across several EZPass states.

I live in Ohio and have an EZPass from Massachusetts because of Ohio's monthly fees.

I place my new-ish FasTrak on the dash behind the center display when I need it. Maybe the angle is perfect through the upper part of the windshield to communicate with the device there. ?‍♂

I got one from New York. No fees and no deposit requirements. That was important for me since I don’t use it very often (no tolls in my state).

That's great to know, I am not a fan of the fees but honestly didn't know there was another option. I will look into it more. Thanks for the reply!

It has been about three weeks now, since I installed my Express Lane transponder. Despite many conversation with PeachPass support, none of my daily use shows as recorded/registered.

PeachPass keep telling me there is nothing to worry about (okay!). Alas, my question is, does anyone here have a transponder for an Express Lane (Peach Pass or SunPass), and if so, does yours seem to work/register okay?
I don’t have PeachPass or SunPass but I’ve had zero issues with the little transponder stickers we get here in Colorado for ExpressToll. We’re actually told to put them in the lower left part of the windshield though.

I switched to a license plate mounted one for this issue.

Mount the transponder in the black-dotted area of the windshield, immediately around the inside rear view mirror. That’s the only area that is RF-transparent for transponders.
Another option if available and the one I chose for EZ pass is they make an external transponder that bolts through the license plate on the front of the car.

I had one of those and it cracked during the winter and fell off. For now on, it’s inside the car only

My transponder did not really work using the black dots. So, the Massachusetts DOT exchanged my transponder for one that fits on the front license plate. There was no charge; it was a simple exchange. It installed in the screws that held the plate, and has worked like a charm for over two years.

I don’t know about y’all but since in FL we use sunpass I have never needed to attach the transponder at all. I just add my tag number to my sun pass account and it charges that way. I never wanted to add the transponder or sticker since I also tint my front windshield and I don’t want to damage the expensive tint
