My 3 months old CR1 stopped charging while I was on a trip away from home. I wrote a post about it here:

https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...-any-charger-is-plugged-in.32070/#post-721533

Dealer says it's a "bent pin" in the charging port, and it needs to be replaced. Problem is, it's backordered and there is no estimated time for arrival. The BEV team representative said that similar backordered parts have been anywhere from 3-6 months wait, and there is no way to tell when this part will be available.

Is anyone else waiting to get their charging port replaced? This seems unreasonable for a part that is likely going to be susceptible to wear or damage. I have a hard time believing that there are zero charging port assemblies available in the United States. Thoughts? Advice?

Shite. That means you don't have a car for 3 months...

Also concerning because a lot of Mach-E's still need charge port replacements to fix derate issues.

Start a buy back. It’s THE fundamental piece of this car.

seeing as probably 25 to 50% of MMe’s are seeing an issue charging on L2 because of possibly the same problem: it’s more egg shells to worry about.

This is the answer.

Unless the car is sprung from dealer jail soon, start a buy back with Ford. In addition, look into your state lemon law process and the Better Business Bureau’s buy back arbitration procedures. 3 months in absurd. 6 months is a failure by Ford. Both are unacceptable.

Possibly if it was one of the AC Pins and the DC cable doesn't have AC pins present:

If it was one of the J1772 ground or signal pins that was bent, then no go.

Might be worth a shot, @B177y , given how terrible the situation is.

Thank you for all of the replies!

A buyback has been started. The BEV rep says that the timeline of the buyback matches the state lemon law, so that's 30 days for me. She said that she "submitted the application", but she didn't have any other information about what happens next, other than she will watch for status changes and follow my case and contact me when appropriate. I'll gladly sell it back if no part is found in 30 days.

BEV offered the rental reimbursement of $40/day if I rent a Ford. Problem is that the least expensive Ford I have been able to find is $86/day with taxes and fees (Washington State). The dealer where I purchased the car and the dealer that now has the car for repair both say they don't have loaners.

I have looked on some parts websites and done online searching. Some suppliers show it as a available, some as not available. It's a $500+ assembly, so I didn't purchase it. When I spoke to the service writer about what I found, I got the run around about where they get their parts and how they have access to all of the parts suppliers, yada yada yada.... I say think outside the box and do everything possible to get the car back on the road. Dealer seems not interested.

I can't DCFC or slow charge. The red flashing light and Ford Pass charging fault message started at a BP DCFC, now the car doesn't recognize any charger. I spoke to BP customer service yesterday and was told that my case was "escalated"... Whatever that means...

Part of the parking lot troubleshooting that I went through with the BEV rep when this started involved looking in the charging port for damaged or bent pins. I had already looked on my own, but did it again while on the phone with the BEV rep. Everything looks fine to me, for whatever that's worth. If you closely examine any charging port and plug, it seems nearly impossible to misalign the plug and receptacle, especially to the point of damaging pins. Am I being too simple thinking just bend it back and get the car on the road while waiting for a new part?

As for using a port from a wrecked MME, since it's a warranty, and seeing how the dealer dealt with me saying I can find the part online, I doubt Ford would cover that or even entertain the idea. In 8 more years or 100,000 more miles, that would be a valid strategy though.

Edited to correct typo's

Thanks for updating us.

Of all the bad in your situation, this stuck out to me as the most ridiculous and the kind of thing that could well push me away from Ford for my next purchase.
  1. Why do Ford dealers get away with not having loaners?
  2. Why would the BEV team offer such an absurdly low rental reimbursement?
  3. And, why, why would they insist that the rental is a Ford, for crying out loud? It's just absurd.
They will lose a lot of money ($10-$20k as a guesstimate, maybe more?) in the buyback process, when they could have simply ponied up the $86/day and then prioritized a replacement part so that they wouldn't be stuck paying that for 3-6 months.

Just absurd.

I'm still appalled that Ford makes YOU rent the vehicle, and then later get reimbursed. For an under warranty vehicle, they should have a car rented out to you until the vehicle is ready. Corporations are horribly bad at providing even bare minimum customer service...

This crap again... They need to raise the $ limit and get rid of the Ford vehicle requirement. Or just cover the whole damn rental. Or provide a loaner.

If you're a dealer and you don't have loaners for this stuff, then Ford needs to take away your ability to sell cars.

I was told Part is back ordered until 12/12. The old number has been replaced with a new one. I assume it is a design change.
