. . . And not expecting a long wait is crazy! I can see it now that there will be legislation to shift holidays for BEV’s - odd plates this weekend and even next. All joking aside when I lived in Greece the traffic was so thick in Athens that they went to diving in the city allowed every other weekend based on your plate. I heard after I left it went to every other week!
I remember in the mid-70s during the gas crisis, you went on specific days based on the license plate and were limited to a dollar amount (it might have been $5, which was like 10 gallons).

A friend and I had each other's license plate in the trunk so we could fill up any day. I remember when gas went from $.34/gallon to $.58 overnight. My 16 year old budget and 1968 Chevelle SS 396 were squeezed pretty hard by that.

Five deep 15 minutes? So it only takes three minutes to pump gas and pay?
On average, yes. Costco has no services there (bathrooms, snacks, etc). It's just gas and nothing else.

US gas pump flow rate is 10 gallons/minute. Typical fill-up is 10-15 gallons on an average size vehicle. That's 60-90 seconds when it's working right (and it usually is). Figure another minute or two to swipe your card and put the nozzle in/out. Pretty simple and quick for the vast majority.

We're on another 1800 mile road trip right now, relying (mostly) on EA. Makes 38,000 miles of road trips for us relying mostly on EA so far.

But we know what we're doing, and are willing to make a little extra effort.
I'll also add... EA gets even better as an option when there's backup DCFC nearby (which the Supercharger network will often do). Our typical experience at EA is success on the 1st or 2nd charger tried roughly 80-90% of the time. Most of the time it's just fine. The fear is in getting to a station that isn't working that well, or at all, or has half the chargers down/derated and there's a line of cars waiting. It's fairly rare (outside of CA, anyway), but always possible, and a nagging concern. THAT'S where adding 15,000 SCs to the mix will greatly improve things.

Just having more backup available makes EA that much better as a 1st choice.

The unfortunate part is that many SC stations are still V2s that do us no good. And those V2s tend to be more common on rural (road trip) routes where we need them. I don't need SCs in cities where there's usually lots of charging options anyway. I need them BETWEEN cities.

More interesting to me is that according to this, the Mach-e will convert to the NACS charge port. I think all EVs should have been built this way from day zero, because the network was already in place thanks to Tesla, and the port was open sourced. But all that aside does this mean we will be able to buy a conversion kit to change existing EVs to NACS standard, and CCS1, J1772, etc only via an adaptor? Seems this should be easily doable since the vehicles can already function with an adaptor. I am hoping so.

Been discussed several times. You should have zero expectation of a conversion kit.

and we’ll probably pay 70 or 80 cents per kWh???
I wouldn't doubt it. We are paying $.50 per minute most places right now. BC Hydro Step 2 rate is $0.14 kWh for home charging. I like to use On the Run at local Chevrons for DCFC, as they are still Free for a "Limited Time"

Edit.

No way would I bother with free DCFC if my home rate was 1.4 cents!

In Greece it was due to too many vehicles. I wish I had a pic but they drove 3 wide on two lanes and five wide on three lane roads downtown. I rarely drove in Athens and drove to and from our air base in the suburb where I lived.

Whoa! $0.014 in Canadian dollars is basically free! No reason to waste time going to the convenience store for free electricity when 1.4¢ CAD/kWh is available at home.

Some chargers work exactly this way.

One reason to NOT put a credit card reader at a charging station would be the thieves that put a scanner on the credit card reader to steal credit card info.
Yeah that makes sense since public chargers don't really have anyone keeping an eye them like gas stations do.

Now if I can just get one before my 2500 mile round trip to Texas and back for the eclipse, that'd be REALLY great!!
Me too. Am
Planning a family reunion 650 miles and 5 states away in July. Have got range anxiety and knowing the Tesla Network could be available is awesome.

Would be wonderful to show the new MME to my family in PA. Can anybody comment on charging stations along I-81 in VA and up to Carlisle, PA?

^^^ This. For those of out in the spread out west, I think we'll be waiting quite a bit before we see many V3's and V4's available as backups for CCS

All unmonitored terminals should be google pay / Apple Pay capable. In reality, all cc terminals should be.

I don’t pull out a physical card to swipe unless there is no other option.
