Unbriddled, growwwwl!

Nice job. Reminds me a bit of HSN or QVC.
I do have to say though, I think "Unbridled" was a silly (bordering on stupid) choice. "Untamed" as it's called in the UK is a better choice. And is a much more widely-known and understood term.

Even in the US, "unbridled" is a term many people are never even heard. And it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

I actually really like the word unbridled. Can’t say I’ve used it before or would have been able to recite it as an adjective before the MME, but it’s one of those words where in the context (horse theme for describing the drive modes), the meaning is clear enough. At the very least, I’m glad they chose to be more creative than eco, comfort, sport, or other generic names for the drive modes.

Unbridled has most regenerative breaking, so that would make it the eco mode?

No, because the brake pedal does the same thing (unless you really slam on the brakes). All it really does is shift the trigger for regen (simply lifting off the accelerator pedal instead of pressing press the brake pedal). But it's the same regen either way.

That is what all the modes do... they just shift the accelerator and breaking curves... So they are all eco and sport...

Watched a review from a car dealership. The guy pronounced "unbridled" with a short "i" - like "unbriddled" funny.

I like the original "stampede" better.

But why deviate from what people are accustomed to? Now we have to relearn what each of the new terms are. I am all for consistent improvements where there is a need. But hope designers and decision makers doesn't change something just for the sake of it. "Why reinvent the wheel? So I can put MY name on it." is a bad motto to follow. I once work with a guy who rewrote a month worth of working, tested code just so he can say he did it.

(Circle back to drive mode topic) Of the 3, I would guess that "Whisper" is the most quite and eco based on name. But honestly can't tell by the word itself on "Engage" vs "Unbridled". I have never heard of "Unbridled" before looking into the Mach-E. I keep picturing a bride running down the hill throwing a saddle off her back.

Right. I thought you were asking if Unbridled is a more eco mode. It's not, they're all the same in terms of amount of regen applied. Just differences in how it's applied (brake pedal vs accelerator pedal).

In fact, any mode that automatically applies regen (like 1-pedal) could end up being a bit less efficient in practice, because it's probably more likely to slow you down with regen at times when you only intended to maintain speed or coast (even though the MME doesn't coast per se). Which means you're applying power to get it back up to speed. Regen doesn't capture as much energy as it takes to accelerate and maintain speed.

It's possible that many Americans have never heard of the word "unbridled", but I see it in print regularly.

I think the new names work because it makes the whole concept with this vehicle more interesting. I’d agree that the conventional names may be better suited to many cars (e.g. family cars), but a Mustang isn’t just a tool to travel from Point A to Point B, the experience is a big part of it. I wouldn’t expect the Escape EV, when it comes, to use names for the drive modes like the MME.

I do agree that whisper is the clearest as to what mode it is the equivalent of. For engaged, I think of it as ā€˜paying attention’ and unbridled as ā€˜out of control’ (in a good way).

Good observation/point on "engaged". I was thinking of this...
