I've been lucky. The electrical box is on the outside of the garage. My Emporia is right on the other side of the wall, so I only needed a few inches of copper to connect it. And, it's on the driver's side of my garage, so I'm five feet away from car to EVSE.

No pictures because the cable is nicely coiled on the floor.

I have a tool balancer that I got from Amazon to hold the plug of the ChargePoint EVSE out of the way when not in use. It's super convenient. (The EVSE is mounted on the other side of the car near the ceiling of my garage. The excess cable is looped around it.)

I'm curious as to why you need to run your cable over your car to connect on the opposite side. Can't you just face your car the other direction? It looks like it would then only need about 6' of cable from the EVSE to connect.
My EVSE is positioned similar to yours and I pull my car into the garage forward. It's then easy to uncoil a couple rolls of the cable and connect to the car.
Do you charge a 2nd car with that cable?

Is there a down side to keeping the cord on essentailly a "spring loaded hose reel"?
The one thing I would be concerned about is heat. If the cable is still wrapped up a little while charging the cable could overheat and melt overtime.

Exact same here.

Hardwired full 48A is the best.

Emporia does double duty - shares between wife's PHEV and MME.

Hey Guys, way back in 2021 I remember forum members posting how they were managing thier home cables from their chargers. I recall one guy having a "spring loaded wheel" type of mechanism. I'm curious what are you all doing for your cords to keep them neat and tidy. Is there a down side to keeping the cord on essentailly a "spring loaded hose reel"?

Feel free to send me pics of your system. Please refrain from sending me pics of loose cord loops on the garage floor with one loop draped over the charger wheel; I can see that at home in my own garage!! ? ?

Thx
I used these to hold the cable up and with 3 of them I avoided spending hundreds on premade solutions. QWORK Spring Balancer, 1.1lbs - 3.3lbs Bearing Retractable Tool Fixture Holder for Assembly-line - Amazon.com

My setup pretty much still looks like this:
Ford Mustang Mach-E Home Charging Cords ( Is Yours a Mess or something Bob Villa would be Proud of )??? evse1

Been that way since 2013 (so, of course, now it has some more dust and cobwebs on it). The Clipper Creek (middle), however, lives in the back of the Mach-E with a J1772 extension cord.

Ah yeah at some point the adapter on the JuiceBox plug melted (took it almost 10 years to melt). Its now wired directly to a plug--no more adapter.

These are all within about a foot of the charge port on the Mach-E. All of my plugins have had the charge port in the same spot: Driver's side front.

I stuck one of these on my wall to hang the extra cable, $9 at home Depot. That's my level of Bob Villaness

I do have another car I charge with that cable. A Mach-E Premium. This facilitates that and keeps it off the ground.

So i had some shelving in the way. And we didn’t want to lose that storage. So I moved the shelving out of the way, installed the plug and charger (the wiring was done when my house was built). And put the shelving back. I was going to a nice piece of painted plywood, mounted on the side of the shelves. But I just used a spare piece wood on the front with some spare S hooks “temporarily” so I could start charging my car - I had bought the car before installing a charger, it now has been 6+ months and I have decided I like it fine. Doesn’t look fancy, and I would have painted it if I thought it was going to be permanent, but it doesn’t block the shelves, I didn’t have to find a new place for my motorcycle jackets, keeps the cable off the floor, and is just a few feet from my charge point on my MME.

Cheap, easy, functional.

charger was $550, minus a $500 rebate from my utility, like $100 for the Hubbel recepticle, $15 or so for the face plate. Then minus the tax break for installing a charger in my home and I think it was close to a wash..

Mine sort of just hangs out of the way, but it's been quite convenient.

My charger is on the wall next to my two solar inverters. I found it easy to hang the cord from my garage door hardware and then put a hook on the far wall for the handle. It works easily to charge both my Mach E and my wife's EV6 (also red) which has a port near the right rear tail light.

Here's mine. The white device attached to the ceiling is a spring loaded reel. For my current use, I really did not need the reel but it could come in handy if I ever have a second EV in the other garage stall - the charger cord should reach over the first car without touching it.
