Thanks so much for this info! Great to know... I didn't know you needed to drive it to download some of these, figured being on WiFi would be good enough.

We've substituted our other car as my wife's commuter because we were racking up to many miles so the Mach-e was only seeing short outings once a week or so.
Thanks again!
There has been only one teeny tiny OTA (23-PU1113-UNX-DC) that required the car to be connected to Wi-Fi...the rest have come over the car's TCU.....while driving!

I have a silly question but which of these updates are "worth" the fuss to buy or find someone to install with FDRS?

The OTA updates cant be trusted to do much of anything and the dealer wont update things unless there is a TSB or they are broken, so where does that leave us?

Like why is there even an ABS module update, that is a system that requires perfect uptime and performance, it should already work if the car is in service, what could possibly be addressed here? I'm confused this even exists.

Is there any way to know what these updates are actually doing, which ones are feature updates, which ones are nice quality of life updates?

I would never want to burden our generous contributors but could we make a guide somewhere so there is a general idea of what is accomplished by any given update?

It just doesn't make any sense to update for the sake of updating and I really appreciate all the volunteer time put into this thread, it is an amazing service to the community.

OTA and their release notes for these vehicles are being recorded here:

https://github.com/elmedico27/fordpowerup

Some of the releases notes are vague and do not provide any useful details as to what certain updates due. It is very difficult to corollate which of your pending updates line up with what OTA.

If you are happy with your as it is, then don't stress it. If there is a specific feature that you are missing that you want, it may be easier to answer your question in terms of what module(s) need to be updated to get it.

Most OTA packages don’t come over WiFi, they come through cellular. They require that you have a good State of Charge on the 12V battery and a reasonable AT&T cellular signal to download. The reason you need to drive the car is because the 12V battery SoC drops when the car is just sitting. Driving charges the 12V off of the big pack. ??

Start with the GWM first.

Thank you!

I have all of the equipment now to run updates and was watching the video in post #1 of this thread by @scoopman https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...ach-e-with-fdrs-alternative-to-forscan.10217/.

He says (time 17:40 in the video) that some of the updates in the list may or may not be for your specific car (ie. the update listed is for job 1 and will brick a job 2).

I have tried searching this thread and the rest of the forum, but have been unable to find the information that he references. Can you point me to that info? Is that accurate or is every update listed in the screenshot that you sent valid for my car (2023 CR1, 7/23 build date)? The video is from 2021, so I'm hoping Ford has gotten to the point that they only show updates that are actually tied to that specific VIN.

Thanks again!

FDRS runs your VIN against the update database. Only updates intended for your vehicle will be made available.

If I understood you correctly, the video stated otherwise?

Correct.

The video stated (paraphrasing) that you should check the status of the updates listed in the FDRS list with the Macheforum to make sure that they are all recommended for your specific vehicle. The example he used was that some of the FDRS updates were for a Job 1 MME and his was a Job 2. Apparently there were reports at the time of bricked modules because of the wrong update being applied, even though the update was in the FDRS list for that vehicle.

Are OTA updates separate from FDRS updates? Just reading through other peoples posts in here. I did all the SW Updates in FDRS a couple weeks ago and now I have 6.3.0 showing Not Completed:

Smart Changes
Refinements have been made to help improve connectivity.
First noticed it on Monday and have driven every day since but doesn't seem to do anything. 3FMTK4SX1PMA37005

Well at that time....(quite a while ago) the software dependency thing was not well understood...and to add to that there may have been instances where certain module updates would cause issues. That's still true today. And that's why he talks about referencing comments from people who have already done one or more of those updates to see if they had any issues during programming or had unwanted behaviors afterward.

But to your point...if there is an available software update listed in FDRS for the VIN you entered.....it's intended for your car, not just a random update that may or may not apply...if it's in your list...it's for your car.

I have no issues with doing 99.8% of the updates normally.

To ensure I follow the 'unwritten' dependency rules I always update any GWM, APIM, or TCU in my list first (in that order, and bearing in mind that there can be instances of back-to-back GWM updates that show up as well), and then I move on to other items like the powertrain (by selecting any one of the PCM, ABS, BECM, SOBDM, SOBDMB, SOBDMC) which will execute a scripted update of any or all of those available updates. And then anything else that I would call a 'standalone' update that only involves one particular subsystem...like the HVAC...or the RFA, etc.

I should also emphasize that you want to clear and retest any DTCs you have before staring any programming.

Same song, fourth verse...

Trying another dealership this week and curious if anyone would mind checking FDRS for 3FMTK3SU6MMA03153 before I head over to chat with them?
