First time poster here, and somewhat new to the eV game. I have a 2023 Premium AWD 90kwH battery. I’m at an EVGo currently and hook up at 11%. It gives me about 178kw at the start. About 3 minutes later a Kia ev6 backs in next to me and hooks up at 12%. And it gives the Kia 276kw at the start. I’m still here, it’s been 23 minutes and I’m currently at 87kw and 56%. The Kia is next to me at 79kw and 84%.
Is this normal for the Mach e to be so much slower than the Kia ev6? Thank you for any input and education.

The Kia has 800V charging vs. the MACH E's 400V. This means it will charge much faster if conditions are perfect (e.g. temperature is not too hot or too cold) and the charger can deliver power at the higher rate. It's one of the areas where the Kia and Hyundai EVs are better than most of the competition.

Twice the v makes sense that it’s much faster. Thanks for the input! I’m still here at 77%, the Kia just left at 96%, lol.

Very odd that they stayed at fast charging to 90%+

Your MME is working as expected however.

Edit: Fast charging not supercharger.

Not at all odd.

Many are uneducated about charging to 80% at fast chargers and on to the next one.

Just nitpicking, but it wasn't a Supercharger. It was an EVgo. The Kia EV6 would not be able to charge that fast on a supercharger, even if they had access.

And it they needed to go to the restroom and get snacks and walk their dog, their car may have gotten to 90+% SoC by the time they were ready to go. This is part of why I don't fuss about my car's charging speed. It's fast enough for my needs.

I’ve ended up over 80% on occasion when the car gets there before I get back from whatever errand I might be running during the charge session. Never intentionally, though.

I don't want to say uneducated. I have charged past 80% to be sure I can make to a charger that works. I have also let it go past 80% as I wasn't ready to leave yet.

I've had 3 Kia/Hyundai cars and I'm not keen to be an early adopter of their EVs. $0.02, and YMMV.

It's not always possible to disconnect at 80% to move on if you are in the western 2/3rds of the country.

Case in point, my parents have an ID.4 and they have taken it to the West Coast from Central Texas 3 times and to Las Vegas on a 4th long trip. If you need 90 or 95 or 100% to get to the next charger, that's what you put.

Or, in our case, our MME is standard battery with AWD, range is 226 miles on the 2023+ with LFP. I have looked at numerous long distance trips from our home in ABRP and in many circumstances going above 80% will speed up the trip significantly, or, alternately get you to the next charger as above with my parents.

Agree that many are uneducated, but there are valid reasons for staying at a DCFC above 80% - while charging is only in the 40 kW range, that extra 10% charge to 90% means 30 miles or so of range - often critical when traveling in the west.

Having DC fast charged well over 100 times, I have to put "uneducated" at the top of the list, actually second. Top of the list is that combined with "I'm not paying for this, it's a free charge", coupled with "why do I care that people are waiting to charge while I go to 100%" for no reason other than it's free.

Totally agree on charging over 80% WHEN NECESSARY, or when no one is waiting. In Southern California (where I assume OP was), it likely wasn't necessary...

Agree, but not in SCal.

I have charged to 95% at a DC fast charger, in the dead of winter, with 197 miles to go to home. This past New Year's Eve, it was snowing, and blowing, and miserable. I froze to death helping a woman charge (for 1/2 hour, she ended up having a bad credit card on the account), and gave up at 90%. With howling winds, I decided to leave and make it, knowing there was a brand new Pilot charging spot located on the way.

Range dropped, pulled into Pilot, and EVGo's network was down nationwide (they run Pilot's chargers). Drove at 40mph with hazards on to a ChargePoint that used to be stupid expensive (had come down) to find it full, but got charged and made it home.
