I’ve totally given up on this whole thing. My wife doesn’t drive that far. Sure it’s a pain in the ass that it won’t charge at full speed and if we set it to 90% we may only get 78% by morning. But that’s only when we plug in at a real low SOC, which is rare for her.

So while I’m not happy with the situation, it also isn’t worth the angst I was allowing it to cause.
Rod, I know your wife's car has this issue but your car doesn't correct?

Correct. Mine is just fine. Even when we switch garage stalls and I use her grizzl-e. Hers yo-yo’s no in either stall/ charger.

I've mentioned this before but same with my first Mach-E ('21 Premium) and my current one ('21 GTPE). My GTPE works perfect. Constant, full (11.2 kW) charging while my previous Mach-E yo-yo's with a max rate of around 8 kW. Both are regularly updated to the latest software with FDRS. Both use Emporia Chargers.

I haven't read the entire thread its 60 pages long...

These high current continuous loads just expose flaws in the system so readily.

Unless its a completely nefarious plot against consumers something is probably just getting hot and trying to preserve itself, or thinks its getting hot and preserving itself...

Maybe use a thermal camera, find the hot spot, suggest that component be exchanged?

Absolutely no angst but will not give up voicing exactly the situation as it stands. Hard to believe a corporation would pick such a stance not once but twice. I do not think government will come to the rescue this time as they did with Fords HVJB software move. Hey Ford charging speed matters that is why you pushed it so much with your lighting; remember? Much appreciated you crapping out my charging with a software install; another top notch move.

Not sure what me walking around with a thermal camera would do for me to get it fixed. The software that Ford installed to slow it down because some charging ports (not mine) were melting is not going to be fixed by me and a thermal camera. Ford refusing to acknowledge it, address it and fix it is the problem. As far as a nefarious plot against consumers they are tight with big gas so who knows. At this point who cares. Under designed HVJB's and melting charging ports seems they have no problems passing their mistakes on to the people that purchased from them and install software to lower the quality of their vehicles.

I went through this same thing a while back. My dealer found a thermocouple in the charging port was reading too high and it was reducing my charging rate. There were no high temps just a reading which was in error. They replaced the charging port and it has been fine since then.

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding here and Ford does deserve some blame.
Reading the melting charging port TSB if that is in fact the nidus here then they very well may have made the thermal regulatory function of the charge port more aggressive to avoid the melting, thus derating your charging.

While mach-lee posted a very thorough troubleshooting list, charging slowdown is MOST likely to be on the vehicle side, and easy to test, just plug into a different EVSE, but people are welcome to make over complicated EVSE's that are welcome to do stupid things.

But a melting charge port is a heterogenous situation and requires troubleshooting and we all know the dealers are too stupid or lazy or unfamiliar with EV's to figure this out and ford is not foolish enough to give dealers a blank check to change out the charging stack.

Thus you are left to handhold your inadequate dealer through this process, the practicality of this process is highlighted by the above poster mentioning some thoughtful tech actually bothered to figure out why it was happening and fix it.

The way that I have observed Ford send out software patches makes me think if they put this in software EVERYBODY with your car would be at risk for this, not just some people, especially as people update their cars with FDRS at random like they do, just doesn't make sense, more likely your car is still trying or thinks its trying to kill itself and is just more aggressive at not causing the charging port to kill itself.

End of my rant is if EVERY 2021 can only charge at 6KW we should all be absolutely putting heat on ford to fix it.

So your dealer was able to find the root cause of the problem. That's a good service department. Did Ford do this under warranty? I have this same issue on my 21 MME so I can't charge at 40 amps without the car cutting the charge rate somewhat. I suspect that I have the same issue with a false reading from the in-line thermistor. Since my issue is manageable, I have not demanded a new charge port yet.

Yes the dealer did this under warranty At that time my car was within the original warranty period and Ford approved it.

I think something like that is exactly what is going on here. It does it in -20C and the charging handle is cold all the time. Charged like a champ for 2.5 years and now for 1.5 not. I am thinking that is what Ford needs to direct my service to do. They have nothing to date. I definitely do not find my service too stupid or lazy or unfamiliar with EV's to figure this out. Just need to be directed and paid for it. This new trend of assume everyone is stupid is making a lot of stupid.

You might consider finding a new dealer who will work with you on this problem . Not all dealers are created equal. Not all dealers want to work on Evs.

Really noticed the drop off in charge rate at home, as I am trying to get back to 95% charge on tight turn arounds back to work.
my grizzle e 40 amp Emma 14-50 starts at 8.8kw, then after 20 minutes drops to 6.6 kw.

My son has a Tesla 48 amp universal hardwired. It starts at 10.7kw and stays at that until back to 90-95% charge.

Mine has nothing to do with the charger it is the car that is the problem. It charges like crap here and at my dealer on their Ford 48 amp charger. Took 9.3 hours to charge it 66% on their charger.

I bought a 3 second car but after 2.5 years they installed software to make it a 5 second car and basic is it a FU. I enjoyed learning EV's can not say the same about owning a Ford.
