You have to remember that flashing modules has risks. Of course it does.I always thought it was a do at your own risk, isn't that what the mega do your own updates thread says? That you can brick your car and you're screwed or something?
however, if you fully understand what you are doing e.g. Making sure you use a proper power supply (which many don’t) then you shouldn’t have any issues.
I’ve even seen dealer techs doing updates without putting a maintainer on. Ridiculous. If the LVB dies during a module update then yes…you’re gonna have a brick. It is understanding that *should* that happen you do it properly and just re flash the module.
If Ford pushes a *bad* update to FDRS then yes…this is a problem. The difference being if you do it…it’s your problem…if the dealer does it..it’s theirs.
If I ever have a problem with using FDRS that is catastrophic I ring the dealer and say “My car is broke”. This has never happened.
By using FDRS, you have to accept an element of risk, but don’t forget…it’s exactly the same as what the dealers are doing
