I have yet to find a “Start” button either on the car screen or in Ford pass.
It’s in FordPass when the car is plugged in.

But if you click “Start” it will ignore your preferred charge level and schedule. It will start charging immediately to 100%.

The problem was caused by the Autel charger. Make sure the firmware on it is fully updated. There are apparently some firmware bugs that cause it to be non-J1772 compliant, which will cause charge faults in some cases. You may have to unplug and replug the car during charging hours to get it to charge.
The problem was that the first time I used the charger I set it up with Autel and apparently it was set to charge. When I plugged it in the next time I didn’t realize that I had to start the charger again. In fact every time I plug it in I need to “Start” the charger with my phone. Which is a minor pain in the ass but I can deal. A pain only because I must have my phone to work the charger. Seems like a button on the charger would be simpler, since I am using it as a dumb charger.

You have to set it to start and end at 12 midnight.
No, no … I was responding to the original post about ’set anytime, & this is not how it works, have been there and done that before, but now, as I wrote, something has changed in the settings for both FordPass & the car.

Previously: car is set to Home schedule as 12:00-6:00am weekends & weekdays (this is our off-peak tariff $.08c/kwH). What was also available in a menu directly nearby, was the ability to simply toggle ‘Anytime’: this then tums off but retains the Home schedule settings & makes it easy to flip that back on again.

Now seems to have been removed or moved. I used this facility to swap between home solar charging any time, energy level dependent, or at night for when I wanted am100% charge.

Puzzling. Would love to know where the Charge Anytime button has gone.

Well that’s dumb, can you set it up to always allow charge without “starting” it first? Is this a commercial model or the home version?

I can explain it, but I can’t understand it for you.

Home version. Using cards is optional if you are charging more than one car. I tried to buy the most basic charger on the approved list from the power company. It is just a little bit smart so it might be smarter than me. But I guess it makes sense to “Start” the charger after it is connected to the car.
I do wish it didn’t have to be controlled by my phone so both my wife and I could fire it up.

Enable auto start, and disable the RFID function in the settings. You don't want to mess with that and it will prevent departure times from working correctly it seems.

a "charge station paused" usually means a problem with your EVSE (charger)
Could also happen if your internet goes out. Just keep your car settings to anytime and your charger the same and you should be able to charge whenever

If this helps with any confusion, here are some screen shots from my phone. In the Autel app, make sure you don't have any charge schedules configured for the charger itself, since the car can handle the charge schedule itself (and allow manual overriding of the schedule). If you have a schedule set for the Autel, and you're not in your scheduled time, you can't override it with the Ford Pass app.

So I have my Autel set up with no "charging plan", so no RFID cards, etc. And it will try to charge the car any time I plug it in, and then the car overrides that with its own schedule (you can see the "Charge suspended by vehicle" notice in my Autel app, and that happened because it hit the car's target charge value for my home charger (which is currently set to 85%).

Then you see in the Ford Pass app that it is showing "Charge Complete" because it hit the target charge configured for my home charger. But since my car is still plugged in, I have the "Start" button available. If I hit that button now, it would start charging my car, even though it is currently outside my configured charging window that I set up in the car (since my power is cheaper at night than during the day).

Hope that helps!

Thanks that is helpful. I shot myself in the foot again by trying to set up my wife's phone as well as mine. Now I cannot access it by bluetooth because my wife's phone has taken priority, and she is not home. I will get this all sorted. It seems to be about the same level of difficulty as I had setting up the garage door opener. I have no idea why that finally is working after I spent a couple of hours repeating the process. Suddenly one of the buttons finally took the setting, and then the other two followed suit. I had that same issue 12 years ago when I set up "Homelink" on the Subaru I just gave to my son and his wife.

I finally resolved the issue of getting the charger to start without use of the phone.
It took some digging but I finally found the option for "Charger turns on when plugged into car". I am persistent if I am not tech savvy.
I must say, I appreciate the smarts available on this forum. I tried to do my due diligence before getting the car by spending time here every day for a couple of months. I would be absolutely lost if I had not done that.

This. When I see this it usually means that I need to unplug the charger and let it reset.
This is helpful. I had an issue last night/this morning. Plugged the car in with the Wallbox Pulsar Plus that I have been using for 2 years without incident on 2 cars. Didn't think anything of it until I unplugged and got in my car this morning to see that it hadn't charged.

After dropping the kids off at school and returning home, I plugged in again. The car and Ford Pass app both said "charge station paused". Checked the Wallbox app and it said "vehicle not requesting charge".

I unplugged, locked the car, reset the charger, waited 10 minutes and then plugged back in. This time the car started charging as it normally has.

Just like a PC or any computer, first step in troubleshooting should always be to restart the equipment.

Picked up our new MME Friday. Struggled a bit to figure out setting the charge schedule but Saturday morning it was ready to go at 90%. This morning no bueno. Still at 47% with message that “Charge station paused” which I suspect is normal outside charge schedule.
The lights on the Autel charger seem to show it available.
So short term, how do I get it to charge now? I tried setting the preferred time to include now, without luck. Is there a hidden “Charge now” button I am not finding? The whole thing isn’t terribly intuitive for this old man.
