I think anything like that would just be speculation at this point. I will say that's wishful thinking, but if I had my guess I would say this week they got bombarded with the new DTC and dealers that have no clue what to do. Recalling the recall would be a way for them to put the brakes on things until they can get a better strategy.

Again, it's all speculative and I'm sure by tomorrow afternoon this thread will have everything from a part replacement to aliens abducting Mr.Farley as the reason. And trust me I would love nothing more than to say "I told you so" to everyone :)
Sorry but this has my head spinning! I have my OTA’s blocked as I wanted to wait and see how well this all progressed. My understanding now is that somehow the recall update is suspended/disappeared/evaporated - am I understanding this correctly?

By the way I believe what Ford did was put an internal timer into the software to produce timed failures to meet parts availability but someone placed a Y2K bug into the timer. (Thought that might be a good start to the conspiracy theories)

Yes that is correct. I'm not sure if they halted OTA's since that requires PTS access which I don't have over the weekend. But it could be that OTA's are stopped as well. I'm not confirming or denying that. But manually updating an MME with the recall software is no longer available.

That makes some sense, but boy, "hey NHTSA, in spite of this being classed as a safety recall, and in spite of us being the biggest American car brand with the largest number of dealerships, we/they can't handle a recall for 49k cars" is a really bad look, to put it mildly.

Then again, we kinda already knew that was the case when they made a software "fix" for a hardware problem.

Hmmm, I wonder if that might be it? Is there any chance that Ford somehow disabled manual recall updates because (based on Scoop's experience) they realized they didn't know how to clear them in their system? (Don't get me wrong - I'd love a s/w recall recall with a h/w recall replacement!)

No, what happened with Scoop was that he updated the modules himself to comply with the recall software but as an owner he was unable to clear the recall from a different system which tracks which VINs have been updated to comply with the recall.

So in his case he had the recall software in place, but it wasn't showing that it was in place. It's just a piss poor way to do things and requires a bunch of extra work.

When I say manual updates are disabled those are also the updates that dealers can perform. So, in other words, a dealer can't even perform the recall update if they wanted to.

Thanks for clarifying. That last part wasn't clear to me.

Boy this is making my trip tomorrow sound more and more entertaining. Place your bets! 2021 Ext AWD going for 775 miles in 110 degree heat at 80mph limits with 13-14degree grades… I’ll be back with a “made it” or “one of us” post tomorrow night I’m sure. I *DID* install the recall myself via FDRS while it was offered along with my May updates etc.

Godspeed Zule! (Oh wait, I shouldn't say this, @Logal727 did before my "experience")

But seriously, at least bring some emergency water in case you're stuck in the desert.

Man, I step away from the forum for a few hours and...

I noticed mine wasn't showing the updates when checked by Mike yesterday, 99% sure they didn't do them after installing the HVBJB 2 weeks ago.

Send me your VIN and I'll check.

Calm winds and clear roads @ZuleMME!
The question I have is how many DCFC stops do you have to make?

@scoopman I’m sorry you had do deal with this HVBJB failure on your family vacation, and thank you for turning lemons into lemonade by keeping us all informed on your travails with the OTA update and HVBJB replacement.

I do think I will take 101 down for my next SoCal trip until this is all sorted out.

So Todd cleared my VIN, confirmed I don't have the new sw, nor is it available for my 4x. Guess that means I don't need it since I have the new part... ?

I ordered fancy metal pedals yesterday to withstand the lead foot I've suddenly acquired.

this is the likely reason. And I think dealers are getting quite pissed at ford rn.

or perhaps they got scoopmans contactor back and it was fine, replaced for no reason.

or better they read this forum and we won. Replaced c parts for everyone. You get a part c, everyone gets a part c :)

@DevSecOps I guess this modules on my vin are the may version and not the recall version?
I agree, my guess is that several HVBJBs that were replaced were inspected and turned out to be fully functional (contactors were not damaged). This would indicate that the software isn't working as expected and will make the HVBJB contactor issue even bigger than it already is. It could even generate DTCs and the warnings on MME's manufactured after 5/24/2022. Ford doesn't want anymore bad publicity so better to pull the software update and rethinking how to detect failing contactors.
I know the Ford app shows my MME needs a software update before I pick it up. Maybe this is to rollback the update.

I'm going with the opposite, think the software is working correctly, and that Ford is finding they have a zillion cars in the wild with varying degrees of dying HVBJBs. On Monday I'll ask my ex-Tesla contact for more information about how their contactors were failing (single event vs slow growth of resistance until it goes exponential).

I mean the software is working correctly in that it's identifying off-nominal HVBJBs, but it could be too sensitive to announce you need a new HVBJB. That is a bad situation if there are a lot of dying but not dead HVBJBs in the wild.
