Okay, I got it. Thanks to other people posting pictures in here, I realized that Ford's idea of "brown" is kind of purplish. That helped me to find the correct wire (isolated with a zip tie in the image.)

(Actually, I'm not 100% sure if it's the correct wire, but when I tapped the wire and grounded it to the door, my liftgate opened and I didn't notice anything else happening.)

Went to do this mod today on my '23. I'm not finding the brown wire. I'm finding purple, orange, reddish, and all kinds of things that are close to brown, but nothing brown (or at least nothing that's clearly brown enough to satisfy me.) I'm using a fairly bright LED light to illuminate down there, so I don't think it's a lighting issue.

I'm too scared to start tapping all the "might be brown" wires and grounding them to test.

I wonder if it's possible to disconnect that harness from the BCM to make it a bit easier to look through the wires. I'm just not sure how to unplug that harness (and I'm also not sure if I'd need to disconnect the LVB before doing so.)

For those who have done this already: I'm impressed that you managed to find the correct wire.

I might end up just not doing the mod out of fear of breaking something. :(
Gary, yes to your question you can absolutely disconnect the connector at the BCM. You may get a warning or two of some systems not working but all will be ok when you reconnect. No need to disconnect the LVB. Removing the connector is easy. There is a little tab in the middle of the black latch that you push (forget which way) while you pull that latch towards the wires.

FYI, this mod has gained The Wife Seal of Approval. There is no higher honor.
I started this thread over 4 years ago because one of my very good friend's wife wanted this physical liftgate open/close switch and I told him I would make it happen for her. Glad so many have done this mod and appreciate it. Was such a simple one too.

4 years, 24 pages, and official Wife Seal of Approval and Ford has given us…

Mach-e’ers have already given up on Pet Mode.

But we do get to sing along while parked and charging.

Ford_orr…. Color blindness. Could not find the brown or tan wire. So I probed the dirty red-ish wire and the lift gate opened. ?

Yes you can use that gauge wire but it is way too large for this purpose. Try to use 18ga if you can. Easily purchased at any hardware store. And yes on the park switch, you leave the "other" wire untouched.

I pulled up on the center console, and this is what I saw. You had mentioned that wr have to splice in to the blue/green wire, right? It is second from the left in this picture.

No, it’s the green/brown wire you must cut and attach the brown wire from the BCM to.

What color is the stripe on that green wire? It looks brown to me in your photo.
Yes, it's green with a brown stripe, or viceversa, in position 2 from left to right.

It looks easy to hide the wire after leaving the bcm. We can tuck it in along the sides of the center console where the shifter is..
Now, how did you maneuver the wire into the space where the shifter panel is?

I used a 14ga copper ground wire from a piece of Romex and thought I sent you a video Norman of me doing that?
